Representatives from the Manila Episcopal Area (MEA) Board of Church and Society, composed of chairpersons and members from its Annual Conferences, participated in the Consultation on Ministry with Children in Conflict with the Law on July 14–15, 2026, at the UMC Headquarters.

Organized by the Board of Church and Society–Philippines Regional Conference in partnership with Asuncion A. Perez Memorial Center, Inc. (AAPMCI), the consultation strengthened the Church's commitment to restorative justice, child protection, and ministry with children in conflict with the law.

As Scripture reminds us, "𝘚𝘱𝘦𝘢𝘬 𝘶𝘱 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘴𝘦 𝘸𝘩𝘰 𝘤𝘢𝘯𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘴𝘱𝘦𝘢𝘬 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘮𝘴𝘦𝘭𝘷𝘦𝘴... 𝘥𝘦𝘧𝘦𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘳𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘱𝘰𝘰𝘳 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘯𝘦𝘦𝘥𝘺." (𝘗𝘳𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘣𝘴 31:8–9) This gathering reflects The United Methodist Church's call to uphold the dignity, protection, and well-being of every child.

Official Statement from the Manila Episcopal Area on the Makati UMC Incident

The Manila Episcopal Area of The United Methodist Church has been made aware of a video circulating on social media involving one of our clergy and a homeless woman. We acknowledge the concern, disappointment, and strong reactions that this matter has caused among members of our churches and the wider public.

As followers of Jesus Christ, we affirm the sacred worth and inherent dignity of every person. The Manila Episcopal Area does not condone any form of abuse, violence, or conduct that diminishes, harms, or violates the dignity of another human being.

We remain steadfast in our commitment to promoting safe, respectful, and compassionate environments in all our churches and ministries. This commitment extends to all people, especially children, women, older persons, persons with disabilities, vulnerable individuals, and those living on the margins of society.

This matter is being addressed through the appropriate supervisory and disciplinary processes of The United Methodist Church, in accordance with the provisions of the Book of Discipline. We are committed to ensuring that the process is fair, thorough, and accountable, while extending pastoral care to all those affected.

We likewise call upon our churches and the public to exercise prudence and responsibility in the use of social media. While public concern is understandable, we respectfully urge everyone to refrain from speculation, personal attacks, and the sharing of unverified information. Let us not allow anger, misinformation, or divisive rhetoric to undermine our Christian witness or cause further harm to individuals, the Church, and the mission entrusted to us.

We ask for your prayers for the homeless woman, the clergy member concerned, all those affected by this incident, and the Church as we seek truth, accountability, healing, and reconciliation. May we all be guided by the compassion, justice, and transforming grace of our Lord Jesus Christ.

"The National Council of Churches in the Philippines (NCCP), in partnership with the Iglesia Filipina Independiente – Diocese of Greater Manila led by (Rt. Rev.) Bishop Salvador R. Ballesteros, and the Parola United Methodist Church, distributed 150 packs of rice to families affected by the massive fire that occurred on May 23, 2026."
