IFI National Cathedral

IFI National Cathedral The National Cathedral is the center for the life, work and witness of the Iglesia Filipina Independiente.

It is the seat of the Obispo Maximo who is the Chief Pastor and Spiritual Head of the Church. The National Cathedral was built in 1969 and dedicated to the honor of the Holy Infant Jesus (Holy Child). It replaced the first Cathedral in Tondo, Manila, that had been completely destroyed during World War II. The National Cathedral proper has three parts: the sanctuary, the congregation seating and th

e baptistry. The sanctuary contains the high altar and the episcopal chair. The congregation seating has a capacity of 1000 people. The baptistry is situated by the main door of the Cathedral. A three-pillared belfry that is detached from the building stands prominently within the Cathedral compound. The Obispo Maximo is assisted in the administration of the National Cathedral and in the supervision of its general affairs by the Cathedral Dean and Canons, and the Cathedral Council. The National Cathedral is located at 1500 Taft Avenue, Ermita, Manila.
