Our Lord Jesus’ name in Hebrew is Yeshua (ישוע) which means, “the Lord saves.” It was the name given by the angel to Mary and was given to Jesus by Joseph. The spread of the devotion to the Most Holy Name is attributed to St. Bernardino of Siena. The monogram of the Holy Name (known as the Christogram), contains the letters IHS, which is an acronym of the Latin “Iesus Hominum Salvator,” which means “Jesus, Savior of Men.”
