Dear God,

I need a miracle in my life right now. I never thought I'd ever place my trust in anyone, or anything. I want to lean on you. I need to believe that you are there, and that you care about me; that I matter. Please guide me steadily out of the pain and confusion that has been my life, and into a new life of promise and hope. I simply and humbly ask for your protective hand to be on my life. Please keep me safe, and from the destructive behavior that I've known so well. I'm yours God. Amen

The listeners to Him think they know Him, because they know from where He comes, that is from right there among them. But Jesus is from there and way beyond. He has come to be known as coming to everywhere from everywhere. They are amazed and “they took offense at Him”. They were relying on their knowledge and He was inviting them to go beyond what they did know into the relationship of faith.

Heavenly Father, thank You that You know the end from the beginning and that You foreknew that I would trust in the Lord Jesus for my salvation. Thank You that You knew that I would become part of the elect of God from the beginning - by grace through faith. Thank You that You sought me out while I was dead in my sins and that Your Holy Spirit convicted me of sin, righteousness, judgement and my need of Jesus. Thank You that in Him I am apart as Your child. I pray that I may be obedient to my calling and bring glory to Your holy name in Jesus name I pray, AMEN.

If the two disciples had not constrained Jesus to stay with them, He would have passed on, and they would have missed the blessed enjoyment of His company, and the disclosure of Himself which He made to them at the end. The lesson is for us. No doubt we miss many rich comforts and blessings because we do not earnestly constrain Jesus to tarry with us. He loves to be constrained. He does not go where He is not really and earnestly desired, where His presence is not eagerly sought after. Only love in us can receive and enjoy Christ’s love.
