St. Rita, the Patroness of Impossible Causes, Difficult Marriages and Parenthood

Santa Rita refers to Saint Rita of Cascial an Italian widow and Augustinian nun who lived from 1381 to 1457. She is known at the Saint Patroness of Impossible Causes and became a nun at age 36 after the death of her husband and her twin sons.

St. Rita is also known to be the Patroness of heartbroken women, specifically for sterility, abuse victims, loneliness, marriage difficulties, parenthood, widows, and bodily ills.

Rita had a great devotion to the Passion of Christ, and one day, when she was sixty-year-old, she asked, "Please let me suffer like you, Divine Saviour." After her request, a wound appeared on her forehead, as if a thorn from Christ's crown had pierced her. It left a deep wound, which did not heal, and it caused her to suffer until the day she died.

Celebrating Mama Mary Feast Days!

May 13 – Our Lady of Fatima

Solemnity of Our Lady of Fatima

Today, the 13th day of May, is the Feast Day of Our Lady of Fatima. It was on this day that the Blessed Virgin Mary started her series of apparition to three shepherd children in the small village of Fatima in Portugal in 1917. She appeared six times to Lucia, who was then 9 years of age, and her cousins Francisco, who was 8 at that time, and his sister Jacinta, aged 6, every 13th of the month between the months of May and October.

The lives of the three children of Fatima were entirely transformed by the heavenly apparitions. While fulfilling the duties of their state with the greatest fidelity, those children seemed now to live only for prayer and sacrifice, which they offered in a spirit of reparation to obtain peace and the conversion of sinners. They deprived themselves of water during the periods of great heat; they gave their lunch to poor children; they wore around their waists thick cords that even drew blood; they abstained from innocent pleasures and urged one another to the practice of prayer and penance with an ardour comparable to that of the great saints. The Blessed Mother came to the little village of Fatima which had remained faithful to the Catholic Church during the recent oppressions by the government. Our Lady came with a message from God to all. She promised that the whole world would be in peace, and that many souls would go to Heaven if her requests were listened to and obeyed. She requested all followers of her Son Jesus for prayers for peace in Russia and the whole world. She requested for reparation and conversion of hearts.

May our Lady of Fatima ever cover us with the mantle of her maternal protection and bring us closer to Jesus, our peace.

Prayer to Our Lady of Fatima

O Most Holy Virgin Mary, Queen of the most holy Rosary, you were pleased to appear to the children of Fatima and reveal a glorious message. We implore you, inspire in our hearts a fervent love for the recitation of the Rosary. By meditating on the mysteries of the redemption that are recalled therein may we obtain the graces and virtues that we ask, through the merits of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Redeemer.

“Novendialies” Masses for Pope Francis
Commemorating his life, praying for his soul

Following the death of Pope Francis, the Vatican held a series of nine Masses, known as Novendialies Masses, to commemorate his life and pray for his soul. These masses are a traditional practice of the Catholic Church, held for nine days after the death of a Pope.

The Novendialies Masses are a period of mourning and prayer. They are intended to:

(i) Honor the deceased Pope: The Masses celebrate the life and legacy of the Pope.
(ii) Pray for his soul: The faithful pray for the repose of the Pope's soul.
(iii) Offer condolences to the Church: The Masses offer condolences to the Catholic community.

The Novendialies Masses for Pope Francis are held from April 26th to May 4th, 2025. Each day focuses on a specific community or group associated with the Pope's ministry.

Day 1 (April 26th): Funeral Mass of Pope Francis, presided over by Cardinal Giovanni Battista Re, Dean of the College of Cardinals.

Day 2 (April 27th): Mass for the Jubilee of Teenagers and Vatican employees, presided over by Cardinal Pietro Parolin, former Vatican Secretary of State.

Day 3 (April 28th): Mass for Catholics and clergy in Rome, presided over by Cardinal Baldassare Reina, Vicar General of the Diocese of Rome.

Day 4 (April 29th): Mass for Chapters of the Papal Basilicas, presided over by Cardinal Mauro Gambetti, Archpriest of St. Peter's Basilica.

Day 5 (April 30th): Mass for the Papal Chapel, presided over by Cardinal Leonardo Sandri, Vice Dean of the College of Cardinals.

Day 6 (May 1st): Mass for the Roman Curia, presided over by Cardinal Victor Manuel Fernández, former Prefect of the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith.

Day 7 (May 2nd): Mass for the Eastern Churches, presided over by Cardinal Claudio Gugerotti, former Prefect of the Dicastery for the Eastern Churches.

Day 8 (May 3rd): Mass for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Apostolic Societies, presided over by Cardinal Ángel Fernández Artime, former Prefect of the Dicastery for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life.

Day 9 (May 4th): Mass for the Papal Chapel, presided over by Cardinal Dominique Mamberti, Pro-to Deacon of the College of Cardinals.

The Novendialies Masses are held in St. Peter's Square and St. Peter's Basilica; the first two Masses are in the Square, and the remaining seven are in the Basilica. (Source: EWTN Vatican)
