Danclever Rebuttal: Drinking Camel Urine in Islam – Clarified
Claim: Muslims are commanded to drink camel urine.
Response: This is false.
Drinking camel urine is not an obligation in Islam. It is mentioned in a specific historical context for medicinal purposes, not as an act of worship.
The Hadith:
Sahih al-Bukhari 5686 – Narrated Anas:
"Some people from the tribe of ‘Ukl or ‘Uraina came to Medina and found its climate unsuitable. So the Prophet ﷺ told them to go to the herd of camels and drink their milk and urine as medicine."
This was a specific case of illness. It was a prescription, not a command for all Muslims.
Is it obligatory today?
No. Islam does not require Muslims to drink camel urine. If science shows it is harmful, then it is not to be used. The Prophet ﷺ said:
"There is no harm nor reciprocating harm."
(Sunan Ibn Majah 2341 – Sahih)
"Allah has sent down the disease and the cure, and He has made for every disease a cure. So treat sickness, but do not use anything haram."
(Abu Dawood 3870 – Sahih)
Do scholars allow it today?
Scholars of Ahlus-Sunnah wal-Jama’ah like Shaykh Ibn Baz, Ibn Uthaymin, and Al-Albani said:
"If it is proven harmful today, then Muslims should avoid it and use safe modern medicine."
What about science?
Some studies explored possible benefits, but there is no conclusive proof, and Islam does not make it compulsory. It is only mentioned as a remedy in one historical context.
Biblical double standard?
If critics mock camel urine, they should look at verses like:
Ezekiel 4:12-15 – commanded to cook using human dung
2 Kings 18:27 – people described eating their dung and drinking their urine
So context matters in both Islam and the Bible.
Conclusion:
Drinking camel urine is not required in Islam. It was a specific medical case in the time of the Prophet ﷺ. If modern medicine says it is harmful, it must be avoided. Islam promotes using effective, safe treatment.
Jesus (peace be upon him) is a Prophet, not God. Only Allah is worthy of worship.
