On this day, we praise the Royal Heart of Jesus, for Thy victory over death and sin, Thy power over souls, and Thy triumph over the living and the dead.

At the end of the Gospel for today's Holy Mass, the Paschal Candle is extinguished, to signify that the Risen Christ who ascended into heaven is no more at the sight of his Disciples.
