Santa Margarita de Castelo was born with dwarfism, physical deformities, and blindness, and was subsequently abandoned by her own parents. Finding refuge and kinship among the destitute, she poured out her life as a Lay Dominican, becoming a beacon of radiant charity, hope, and consolation for the sick, the imprisoned, and fellow outcasts, which earned her veneration as Patroness of Pro-Life Philippines.

Let her radiant spirit inspire us to recognize the sacred dignity of every human life, especially the weak and the forgotten. Her journey reminds us that physical brokenness cannot dim a soul ablaze with Divine love and selfless generosity.

Let us join with her during the grand procession of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary La Naval de Manila on the 2nd Sunday of October at the National Shrine of Our Lady of the Rosary La Naval de Manila.

The Image of St. Margaret of Castello of the Minor Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary of Manaoag

Behind the gentle face of St. Margaret is a story of a life that knew rejection, loneliness, and suffering.

Born blind, hunchbacked, and with physical disabilities, Margaret was abandoned by her own parents because they were ashamed of her. Yet the world that rejected her was never able to take away her dignity in the eyes of God.

She found refuge in faith, becoming a woman of deep prayer, compassion, and love for those who were also forgotten. What others saw as a life of misfortune, God transformed into a life of holiness.

St. Margaret of Castello, God’s Little Pearl, pray for all those who have ever felt unwanted, forgotten, or left behind. May they know that in the eyes of God, they have always been loved.

The Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary celebrates the Church’s belief that, at the end of her earthly life, Mary was assumed body and soul into the glory of heaven. This feast reminds us of the dignity of the human person, the victory of Christ over sin and death, and the hope of the resurrection promised to all who faithfully follow Him.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, You raised the Blessed Virgin Mary, body and soul, into the glory of heaven as the first fruit of the redemption won by Your Son. Through her loving intercession, strengthen our faith, deepen our hope, and fill our hearts with charity. May we imitate Mary’s humility, obedience, and unwavering trust in Your will, so that one day we may share in the everlasting joy of Your Kingdom. We ask this through Christ our Lord.

Our Lady Assumed into Heaven, pray for us.

On this First Friday, we lovingly honor the Most Sacred Heart of Jesusβ€”the Heart that burns with infinite love, mercy, and compassion for all humanity. This beautiful devotion reminds us that Christ's Heart remains open to every soul, inviting us to trust in His mercy, make reparation for our sins, and draw closer to Him through prayer, the Holy Eucharist, and a life of charity.

May this First Friday renew our hearts with deeper faith, hope, and love. Let us respond generously to His invitation: "Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest." (Matthew 11:28)

The devotion to Our Lady of the Angels traces its roots to the 13th century through the little chapel known as the Portiuncula, dedicated to St. Mary of the Angels, which held special significance for St. Francis of Assisi. The Marian title later spread throughout the Catholic world.

One of the most famous devotions under this title is in Basilica of Our Lady of the Angels, where a small dark-colored stone image of the Blessed Virgin was reportedly discovered by a young girl in 1635. According to tradition, each time she took the image home, it mysteriously returned to the place where it had been found. The faithful understood this as a sign that Mary desired a church to be built there. Since then, millions of pilgrims have visited the shrine seeking Our Lady's maternal intercession.

Mary, under this title, reminds us that although she is Queen of Heaven, she lovingly accompanies us with the angels, leading all people closer to her Son, Jesus Christ.

Prayer to Our Lady of the Angels

O Most Holy Virgin Mary, Our Lady of the Angels,

We come before you with humble hearts, trusting in your loving care. You are the Mother of our Savior and the Queen of Angels, who continually watches over your children with tenderness and compassion.

Obtain for us the grace to live faithfully according to the Gospel. Strengthen us in times of trial, comfort us in moments of sorrow, and lead us ever closer to your Son, Jesus Christ.

Protect our families, guide our communities, and inspire us to become instruments of God's peace and mercy. May the holy angels guard us on our journey, and may your maternal mantle always shelter us from harm.

Our Lady of the Angels, pray for us.

Amen.
