Serving as a voice for ecumenical unity and youth leadership, Bro John Luie Dela Cruz, the Diocesan Youth Executive Council President, successfully participated in the School of Mission for Young People (SMYP) 2026. The event was held from July 20 to 24, 2026, focusing on the timely theme, "Peace Making: Godโ€™s Call to Mission."

Bro John Luieโ€™s invitation was very timely. Aside from leading our diocesan youth, he is also an active member of the Bulacan Ecumenical Youth Movement. Because of his active role in this ecumenical movement, he was chosen and invited by the Global Ministries of the United Methodist Church (UMC) to join the summit. Guided by the goal "Connecting the Church in Mission," the program gathered youth leaders from different denominations. Delegates came together from the United Methodist Youth Fellowship (UMYF), Youth of the Iglesia Filipina Independiente (YIFI), UCCP, Episcopal Youth, and the UMYAF to talk, learn, and work as one.

We give our biggest thanks to the Global Ministries of the UMC for this wonderful invitation and for creating a program that truly values the voice of the youth.The five-day event was a great opportunity for learning and community immersion. Instead of just staying inside a classroom, the young leaders went directly into the communities to experience life with the locals. This taught them how to connect their faith with real-world issues like peacebuilding, helping others, and serving the needy. The lessons and eye-opening experiences from this program have equipped our president with fresh ideas to better serve the marginalized sectors back home.

This program reminds us that youth mission is not just about listening to long lectures. True youth leadership means being active on the ground and helping the community. By trusting young people and giving them a seat at the table, platforms like SMYP prove that the youth are ready to lead today. They are fully capable of addressing modern challenges like mental health issues, social confusion, and community needs.

Bro John Luieโ€™s experience in this ecumenical space is a big blessing for our local youth ministries. Armed with new learnings and strong connections from other churches, our leadership is ready to turn these lessons into action, bringing real help, hope, and love to those who need it most.

DIOCESE OF CAVITE โ€” The youth delegation from the Diocese of Bataan and Bulacan successfully completed the 1st Regional Youth Meeting of South Central Luzon at the Cathedral of St. Michael the Archangel (July 17-19, 2026). The group was led by DYEC President John Luie R. Dela Cruz and YIFI President of Malolos, Bulacan, Stephen Arellano. With the theme, โ€œNourished by the Spirit, Bearing Fruits of Renewal,โ€ this event focused on strengthening community service and spiritual growth among the youth.

The three-day assembly was packed with meaningful activities:

Day 1: Registration, Opening Mass, a lecture on the theme, the Opening of Business meeting, and a Welcome Night.
Day 2: Morning Worship, Continuation of Business, a Diocesan Tour around Cavite, Solidarity Night, and the Act of Commitment.
Day 3: Holy Mass and a Closing Ceremony to officially send forth the delegates.

The Diocese of Bataan and Bulacan proudly congratulates the Regional Youth Executive Council (RYEC). The Diocesan Youth Executive Council (DYEC) extends its heartfelt gratitude to everyone who became part of this year's successful Diocesan Youth Camp.

With deep appreciation, we thank all the youth delegates, our Obispo Maximo Joel O. Porlares, all parish priests especially Monsi James and Fr. Reynan, as well as the coordinators, facilitators, speakers, judges, School Principal Sir Malang, Kap. Billy Lacaba, and all volunteers who generously shared their time, effort, and dedication throughout this four-day gathering.
