Maryโ€™s words in Luke 1:38 โ€œBehold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your wordโ€ are the very soul of Flores de Mayo. Her obedient โ€œyesโ€ reversed the disobedience of Eve, opening the way to salvation through Christ.

Our flower offerings are symbols of love, humility, and our desire to follow her example. As Marialis Cultus reminds us: devotion to Mary always leads us closer to Jesus. May we echo her Fiat in our lives trusting, surrendered, and faithful to Godโ€™s will.

โœจ Philippine Adaptation of Flores de Mayo โœจ

Brought by Spanish friars in the 1800s to honor the Virgin Mary and teach the faith, Flores de Mayo is cherished nationwide and even celebrated by Filipino communities abroad every May.

Devotees, especially children, offer flowers, prayers, and songs as thanks for blessings, harvests, and new life. What makes it uniquely Filipino? It unites families and neighbors in joy and community reminding us that faith is best expressed through simple, heartfelt acts of love and gratitude. ๐Ÿค๐ŸŒผ

One of the most celebrated Christian festivals in the Philippines is Flores de Mayo or Flores de Maria. It a Spanish term that translates to โ€œFlowers of Mayโ€. This devotion honoring the Blessed Virgin Mary was introduced by Spanish friars in the mid-1800s. It gained widespread devotion after the proclamation of the Dogma of the Immaculate Conception by Pope Pius IX in 1854.

While it is celebrated today as a month-long Catholic devotion in the Philippines, its origins are derived from shared Spanish and Mexican influences introduced during the colonial period. This offering of flowers to the Blessed Virgin Mary originated in southern Europe with the concept of โ€œMay Altar,โ€ where altars at home are decorated with flowers because May is springtime, a perfect time when flowers bloom.

From a simple โ€œMay Altarโ€ to todayโ€™s Marian devotion, may every flower offers to our Lady be a story of hope, a shadow of faith and an expression of love, entrusting our prayers to the intercession of our dear Mother Mary confident that in Godโ€™s perfect time, our prayers will be answered.

With hearts united in faith and service, we joyfully launch the Flores de Mayo BukYo Weekend Catechism! Beginning this season, the Diocesan Commission on Youth will be sharing a Catechism every Sundayโ€”guiding our young people to grow deeper in faith through our love and devotion to the Blessed Mother.

We also invite and encourage the youth from different parishes, quasi-parishes, and mission stations to actively coordinate with their catechists and take part in supporting Flores de Mayo activities within their communities.

This initiative reflects the beauty of inter-ministeriality and synodalityโ€”walking together, serving together, and building a Church where every young person is formed, involved, and empowered.

Let us journey together this month of May, offering not just flowers, but lives rooted in faith and service ๐Ÿ’ ๐Ÿ™

As we continue to celebrate the joy and hope of Easter, we invite all Youth Leaders from the parishes and youth organizations to join the Quarterly Diocesan Youth Coordinating Council (DYCC) Formation and Meeting on April 25, 2026, from 8:00 AM to 12:00 NN via online platform.

Due to the current oil crisis and concerns on transportation costs and accessibility, this quarterโ€™s meeting will be conducted virtually to ensure everyone can participate.

The meeting link and the official invitation letter will be posted in our KASANGGA group chat.

Let us continue to journey together as KASANGGA in faith, hope, and love!

April 11, 2026 | PRAYER VIGIL FOR PEACE

In the quiet of different parishes, in the stillness of candlelight, and in the depth of silenceโ€ฆ THE YOUTH CHOSE TO PRAYโ€”no grand stages, no loud applause, only hearts kneeling, voices whispering, and souls surrendering.

Across the Diocese of Malaybalay, mga ka-BukYo gathered in their own sacred spaces, united by one intention: PEACE.

In a world filled with noise, conflict, and indifference, the young people responded differently.
They showed up.
They knelt down.
They prayed.

Because peace does not begin in negotiations alone; it begins in hearts willing to be transformed.

We prayed for nations at war, for leaders, for the suffering, and for our countryโ€”most especially that we ourselves may become instruments of peace. This is our quiet revolution, not fought with weapons but with faith, not driven by anger but by hope.

May this not end as a one-day vigil.

May this become a lifestyleโ€”
to choose peace in our words,
peace in our actions,
peace even in our silence.

The world does not only need loud voices; it needs praying hearts. ๐Ÿ™

In a world that trembles with noise, conflict, and uncertainty, we are invited to return to what is quiet and powerful... prayer.

Having just celebrated the joy of the Risen Lord last Sunday, we carry the light of Easter in our hearts, a light that no darkness can overcome.

Responding to the call of the Holy Father, the Diocesan Commission on Youth of the Diocese of Malaybalay, joins the whole Church in gathering as one people, one hope to pray for peace on April 11, 2026.

Not only peace among nations, but peace within hearts, within homes, within the spaces we often forget to heal.

Prayer vigils will be held in our respective parishes. We invite all young people, families, and communities to come.

Come as you are.
Bring your silence, your longing, your faith.
Let us carry the light of the Risen Christ
and become that light for the world, together.

Her story reminds us that our response is always rooted in Godโ€™s love, for He first calls us and embraces us in our brokenness.

Let us pause, reflect, and open our hearts to His mercy as we watch this video ๐ŸŽฅ
