MASS READINGS FOR TODAY, February 4, 2022 (Friday of the Fourth Week in Ordinary Time)

I. First Reading: SIRACH 47:2-11

2As the fat is selected from the peace offering, so David was selected from the sons of Israel. 3He played with lions as with young goats, and with bears as with lambs of the flock. 4In his youth did he not kill a giant, and take away reproach from the people, when he lifted his hand with a stone in the sling and struck down the boasting of Goliath? 5For he appealed to the Lord, the Most High, and he gave him strength in his right hand to slay a man mighty in war, to exalt the power of his people. 6So they glorified him for his ten thousands, and praised him for the blessings of the Lord, when the glorious diadem was bestowed upon him. 7For he wiped out his enemies on every side, and annihilated his adversaries the Philistines; he crushed their power even to this day. 8In all that he did he gave thanks to the Holy One, the Most High, with ascriptions of glory; he sang praise with all his heart, and he loved his Maker. 9He placed singers before the altar, to make sweet melody with their voices. 10He gave beauty to the feasts, and arranged their times throughout the year, while they praised God's holy name, and the sanctuary resounded from early morning. 11The Lord took away his sins, and exalted his power for ever; he gave him the covenant of kings and a throne of glory in Israel.

II. Responsorial Psalm: PSALMS 18:31, 47, 50-51

30This God -- his way is perfect; the promise of the LORD proves true; he is a shield for all those who take refuge in him. 46The LORD lives; and blessed be my rock, and exalted be the God of my salvation, 49For this I will extol thee, O LORD, among the nations, and sing praises to thy name. 50Great triumphs he gives to his king, and shows steadfast love to his anointed, to David and his descendants for ever.

III. Gospel: MARK 6:14-29

14King Herod heard of it; for Jesus' name had become known. Some said, "John the baptizer has been raised from the dead; that is why these powers are at work in him." 15But others said, "It is Eli'jah." And others said, "It is a prophet, like one of the prophets of old." 16But when Herod heard of it he said, "John, whom I beheaded, has been raised." 17For Herod had sent and seized John, and bound him in prison for the sake of Hero'di-as, his brother Philip's wife; because he had married her. 18For John said to Herod, "It is not lawful for you to have your brother's wife." 19And Hero'di-as had a grudge against him, and wanted to kill him. But she could not, 20for Herod feared John, knowing that he was a righteous and holy man, and kept him safe. When he heard him, he was much perplexed; and yet he heard him gladly. 21But an opportunity came when Herod on his birthday gave a banquet for his courtiers and officers and the leading men of Galilee. 22For when Hero'di-as' daughter came in and danced, she pleased Herod and his guests; and the king said to the girl, "Ask me for whatever you wish, and I will grant it." 23And he vowed to her, "Whatever you ask me, I will give you, even half of my kingdom." 24And she went out, and said to her mother, "What shall I ask?" And she said, "The head of John the baptizer." 25And she came in immediately with haste to the king, and asked, saying, "I want you to give me at once the head of John the Baptist on a platter." 26And the king was exceedingly sorry; but because of his oaths and his guests he did not want to break his word to her. 27And immediately the king sent a soldier of the guard and gave orders to bring his head. He went and beheaded him in the prison, 28and brought his head on a platter, and gave it to the girl; and the girl gave it to her mother. 29When his disciples heard of it, they came and took his body, and laid it in a tomb.

MASS READINGS FOR TODAY, June 6, 2021 (The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ - Solemnity)

I. First Reading: EXODUS 24:3-8

3Moses came and told the people all the words of the LORD and all the ordinances; and all the people answered with one voice, and said, "All the words which the LORD has spoken we will do." 4And Moses wrote all the words of the LORD. And he rose early in the morning, and built an altar at the foot of the mountain, and twelve pillars, according to the twelve tribes of Israel. 5And he sent young men of the people of Israel, who offered burnt offerings and sacrificed peace offerings of oxen to the LORD. 6And Moses took half of the blood and put it in basins, and half of the blood he threw against the altar. 7Then he took the book of the covenant, and read it in the hearing of the people; and they said, "All that the LORD has spoken we will do, and we will be obedient." 8And Moses took the blood and threw it upon the people, and said, "Behold the blood of the covenant which the LORD has made with you in accordance with all these words."

II. Responsorial Psalm: PSALMS 116:12-13, 15-18

12What shall I render to the LORD for all his bounty to me? 13I will lift up the cup of salvation and call on the name of the LORD, 15Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints. 16O LORD, I am thy servant; I am thy servant, the son of thy handmaid. Thou hast loosed my bonds. 17I will offer to thee the sacrifice of thanksgiving and call on the name of the LORD. 18I will pay my vows to the LORD in the presence of all his people,

III. Second Reading: HEBREWS 9:11-15

11But when Christ appeared as a high priest of the good things that have come, then through the greater and more perfect tent (not made with hands, that is, not of this creation) 12he entered once for all into the Holy Place, taking not the blood of goats and calves but his own blood, thus securing an eternal redemption. 13For if the sprinkling of defiled persons with the blood of goats and bulls and with the ashes of a heifer sanctifies for the purification of the flesh, 14how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without blemish to God, purify your conscience from dead works to serve the living God. 15Therefore he is the mediator of a new covenant, so that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance, since a death has occurred which redeems them from the transgressions under the first covenant.

IV. Gospel: MARK 14:12-16, 22-26

12And on the first day of Unleavened Bread, when they sacrificed the passover lamb, his disciples said to him, "Where will you have us go and prepare for you to eat the passover?" 13And he sent two of his disciples, and said to them, "Go into the city, and a man carrying a jar of water will meet you; follow him, 14and wherever he enters, say to the householder, `The Teacher says, Where is my guest room, where I am to eat the passover with my disciples?' 15And he will show you a large upper room furnished and ready; there prepare for us." 16And the disciples set out and went to the city, and found it as he had told them; and they prepared the passover. 22And as they were eating, he took bread, and blessed, and broke it, and gave it to them, and said, "Take; this is my body." 23And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he gave it to them, and they all drank of it. 24And he said to them, "This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many. 25Truly, I say to you, I shall not drink again of the fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God." 26And when they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.

MASS READINGS FOR TODAY, February 7, 2021 (Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time)

I. First Reading: JOB 7:1-4, 6-7

1"Has not man a hard service upon earth, and are not his days like the days of a hireling? 2Like a slave who longs for the shadow, and like a hireling who looks for his wages, 3so I am allotted months of emptiness, and nights of misery are apportioned to me. 4When I lie down I say, `When shall I arise?' But the night is long, and I am full of tossing till the dawn. 6My days are swifter than a weaver's shuttle, and come to their end without hope. 7"Remember that my life is a breath; my eye will never again see good.

II. Responsorial Psalm: PSALMS 147:1-6

1Praise the LORD! For it is good to sing praises to our God; for he is gracious, and a song of praise is seemly. 2The LORD builds up Jerusalem; he gathers the outcasts of Israel. 3He heals the brokenhearted, and binds up their wounds. 4He determines the number of the stars, he gives to all of them their names. 5Great is our LORD, and abundant in power; his understanding is beyond measure. 6The LORD lifts up the downtrodden, he casts the wicked to the ground.

III. Second Reading: 1 CORINTHIANS 9:16-19, 22-23

16For if I preach the gospel, that gives me no ground for boasting. For necessity is laid upon me. Woe to me if I do not preach the gospel! 17For if I do this of my own will, I have a reward; but if not of my own will, I am entrusted with a commission. 18What then is my reward? Just this: that in my preaching I may make the gospel free of charge, not making full use of my right in the gospel. 19For though I am free from all men, I have made myself a slave to all, that I might win the more. 22To the weak I became weak, that I might win the weak. I have become all things to all men, that I might by all means save some. 23I do it all for the sake of the gospel, that I may share in its blessings.

IV. Gospel: MARK 1:29-39

29And immediately he left the synagogue, and entered the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John. 30Now Simon's mother-in-law lay sick with a fever, and immediately they told him of her. 31And he came and took her by the hand and lifted her up, and the fever left her; and she served them. 32That evening, at sundown, they brought to him all who were sick or possessed with demons. 33And the whole city was gathered together about the door. 34And he healed many who were sick with various diseases, and cast out many demons; and he would not permit the demons to speak, because they knew him. 35And in the morning, a great while before day, he rose and went out to a lonely place, and there he prayed. 36And Simon and those who were with him pursued him, 37and they found him and said to him, "Every one is searching for you." 38And he said to them, "Let us go on to the next towns, that I may preach there also; for that is why I came out." 39And he went throughout all Galilee, preaching in their synagogues and casting out demons.
