"Christmas Tree and Wreath"
******************************

In this season of Advent, why do we put up such decorations? What do they mean to us?

A tree that is dead but still standing is like the cross that symbolizes the death of Jesus. But a tree that is green symbolizes life β€” the resurrection of Jesus.

It tells us that Jesus, who triumphed over the power of the devil, is why we decorate the Christmas tree: to say that we must be fruitful in this life through faith β€” the faith that produces good works.

As it is written in John 15:5, we are the branches. So the decorations hung on the Christmas tree are the fruit of our faith in Jesus. The Christmas tree that is full of decorations symbolizes our Christian lives. So let us shine this season of Advent!

"An Advent Preacher Point to Jesus"
Matthew 11:2-15

John the Baptist is the way-preparer, and he already knew Jesus was the greater one to come (Matthew 3:11). So he sent his disciples to ask, β€œAre you the one who is to come?” not out of doubt, but to introduce Jesus to them and let them witness His works for themselves.

This reveals what the Law convicts us of: we too, longed to see God’s promises fulfilled in tangible ways, or we risk looking for false saviors instead of fixing our eyes on Him. Even with a faithful guide like John, we depend on direct witness to recognize the Messiah – a reminder that our own understanding is insufficient without God’s self-revelation. After the disciples left, Jesus affirmed John as a great prophet, but made clear the one he pointed to (Jesus Himself) is far greater.

The text declares that Jesus is indeed the long-awaited Messiah, and He alone brings the rest and salvation we crave. Jesus responds to John’s question by pointing to His works: healing the blind, lame, lepers, deaf, raising the dead, and preaching good news to the poor (v.5) – all fulfilling Old Testament prophecies. The kingdom has come in Jesus. He assures us that our search for meaning and salvation ends in Him – He is the one we have been waiting for, and He comes to save us from our sin and doubt.

In His name. Amen!

"Don't Forget the Lord"
Deut. 8:11-20

This Thanksgiving, as we enter Advent and light the candle of Hope, let's turn our hearts to the deeper meaning of gratitude. Beyond material blessings, let us be thankful for Jesus, our ultimate source of hope. Not only today but everyday in our lives, be thankful!

Remembering the lessons of Deuteronomy 8:1-20, let's not focus solely on material possessions or the food before us. Instead, let us focus on the Word of God! Appreciating the Word fills us with blessings and gratitude, inspiring us to support the ministry and those who guide us spiritually.

Just as Deuteronomy reminds us, "Do not forget the Lord," let us not forget Jesus the bearer of hope, the Shepherd who care for our souls. May our gratitude shine as a light of hope this Advent.
