📖 John 20:19-23

I said mass last night, and my voice was a little bit hoarse, and some people are saying, "Father, paos na kayo." I just came from a pilgrimage, 17 days, where the temperature is from -2 to 15 and feels like 12. At pag-landing mo sa Pilipinas, 42. Talagang magbabago ang boses mo. Thank you for your concern.

Second, because I posted something on Facebook, there were so many questions. I think I have triggered some emotions that angered some people, and yesterday, I said in the homily that you cannot prevent people from leaving the church. Hopefully, you are not the reason. And one of the comments said, "Sana hindi pari ang dahilan kung bakit umaalis ang tao sa simbahan." Baka ako ang pinaparinggan niya.

Well, sasagutin ko kayo, and I want you to remember this. I want you to understand this. If the priest is the reason for the faithful to leave the Church because of his sin and wrongdoing, he will go to hell. He will suffer for it. St. Thomas Aquinas has said this in one of his visions: "I saw priests and bishops in hell." So if the priest is the reason for others to leave the Church because of their wrongdoing, be assured the priest will suffer in hell. But if you leave the Church because the priest was correcting you and you don't want to be corrected, I assure you, you will go to hell. Seriously, you will go to hell.

One sin that cannot be forgiven is the sin against the Holy Spirit, and what is that? The refusal to be corrected. If you receive the Spirit, you live in the truth. You live according to the ways of God, not according to anyone else. Live in the truth. If you receive the Spirit, your sin convicts you, and you are enticed. You are drawn to repentance. That's a clear sign of the presence of the Holy Spirit. You live in the truth, and sometimes the truth hurts. Some people avoid the truth because they are not comfortable with it. If you sin, then the Spirit will convict you and draw you to repentance.

Remember this. Keep this in mind again. If God will not spare the priests and bishops He's ordained, do you think He will spare any layperson who sins? If God did not spare bishops and priests, sending them to hell because of their sin, do you think a senator, a congressman, or a corrupt official will be spared? Gising.

Yes, this is very true that we have a God of mercy, but do not forget, He is also a God of justice. At magkukuwentuhan kayo.

We will be held accountable for the things we have done. Huwag niyo itong kakalimutan ulit. Kasi mahilig tayo sa good thoughts. "Don't worry, it's the thought that counts." Narinig niyo na 'yon?

"Hindi ako nakasimba. Gusto ko, kaya lang hindi ko nakasimba." "Don't worry, it's the thought that counts." "Don't worry, it's the thought that counts." Basahin niyo kung nasa Bibliya yung thoughts. You will not go to heaven by having a good thought. Utot mo. Truth. You will be convicted of sin so that you will repent.

Third, you should change your life for the better. Sino ba sa atin ang hindi nakakamali? Lahat ay nagkakamali. Lahat ay nagkasala. Pero hindi lahat ng nagkamali ay nagkasala. Pero lahat ng nagkasala ay nagkamali. Tandaan niyo ‘yon. Kaya, kapag ikaw ay nagkamali, ayusin mo. Pag nagkasala ka, baguhin mo. "Ano bang pinagkaiba nun, Father?

Anong magandang example diyan?" Daldal ka nang daldal. Nagtimpla ka ng kape. Pumunta ka sa dispenser. Nilagyan mo ng tubig. Noong hinahalo mo, hindi matunaw. Mali ang nilagay mo. Kasalanan ba ‘yon? Hindi, may tawag dun. Ang tawag dun, nagkamali. Yung nag-isip, tatanga-tanga, kayo ang nagkasala. Mabilis kayong maghusga. Oh, naintindihan niyo na. Mangumpisal kayo bukas. Nagkakamali tayo.

Tanggapin niyo, hindi tayo perpekto. Yes, the Heavenly Father urged us to be perfect, but we will never be perfect. St. John Marie Vianney has said this: "The moment you become perfect, you will die." Why? Because the world cannot contain a perfect person. But if you pursue perfection, later on, you will be able to embrace excellence. As you try to be perfect, you will never become perfect, but at least you will become excellent. Become a better person today than yesterday.

You live in peace. Kaya nga mahalagang mahalaga yung peace be with you. Hindi natin pinapansin. Pag sinabing, "Let us now bless each other by giving each other a sign of peace." Sinong tinutunguhan? Peace, peace ka nang peace, peace. Natalsikan na ng laway ang katabi mo. Umuwi tuloy na may sakit. Nahawa. Tingnan mo sa mata. Pag walang nakatingin, huwag kang tutungo. Tingnan mo, antayin mo.

“In any house you enter, you greet them with peace." So, huwag kang matakot bumati. Yung feeling mo, hindi karapat-dapat yung katabi mo. Damihan mo. Peace, peace. Balik lahat sa iyo ’yon. Sa iyo lang, akin, peace. Kaya pala tuwang-tuwang bumati.

Peace is not the absence of war. Peace is the presence of God. Kaya nga sana pag uwi niyo mamaya, because it's Pentecost, the first thing you will be doing the moment you enter your home, you will say the prayer, "May the peace of the Lord reign in this house." Sigurado ako, pag-uwi niyo, makakalimutan niyo 'yan. The reign of the Lord will be peace. Magkakabaliktad-baliktad ‘yan. Tandaan ninyo, may the peace of the Lord reign in this house.

Kakain tayo. Total mamaya pa naman, magsimba muna. Next year na lang. Next year niyo na lang gawin yung prayer. Hari nawa’y buhay pa kayo.

I'm not kidding. Seriously. The problem is we don't want to live in the truth. We don't want to correct what is wrong. We don't want to improve our lives. Gusto nating sila ay magbago; huwag tayong magbabago. Kaya wala tayong kapayapaan sa buhay natin. Do not forget the second reading that the Spirit was given in service of the church. Don't be afraid to ask. Don't be afraid to bless anyone.

It is not by accident. You don't believe this, that it is not by accident you are seated with somebody you do not know. Nothing happens by accident. If you bless the person rightly, you might be healing the person, or you might be giving the person the courage to move on in life. You might be blessing the person. You might be opening the heart of the person, for it has been closed for a time because they have been hurt. The lock was on the door when Jesus entered. But you have to understand this: it's easier to enter a locked door than a closed heart.

Going back to what I've said, do not forget this. If God did not spare bishops and priests from going to hell because of their sins, do you think you're able to escape from it?

Hopefully, we live in the truth. We correct what is wrong in our lives. We become a better person. We live in peace by doing the will of God. And let all these things be a desire in our hearts because the Spirit was given that we may praise God and do His will.

⛪️ Vigil of Pentecost

📖 John 7:37-39

Pentecost literally means fifty. The fifty. Many people thought that Pentecost means the coming of the Holy Spirit. The word Pentecost literally means fifty. On the 50th day. From where? From the day of the resurrection, you count it: it's 50 days, where the apostles, as they spoke before the people, the people from different countries were able to understand them. It is not about the one who proclaimed, but it is the one who hears. The apostles were speaking in Greek or in Hebrew, and yet the people who were listening to them were able to understand them.

Even though the Gospel said the spirit was not yet with them, but within the 50 days, you have heard already for the past several days that the spirit has already manifested itself to people, bringing conversion, allowing them to experience miracles, and allowing them to experience healing. The first Christians, the families are baptized, not only the adults, but also including children. That is the manifestation.

What is the first reading trying to tell us? It is a renewal that allows people to dream dreams. Magkaroon ka muli ng panibagong pag-asa. Kapag minsan 'pag punong-puno tayo ng problema, nawawalan tayo ng pag-asa. Sabi nila, "Habang may buhay, may pag-asa." Sapagkat 'pag nawala ang pag-asa, the moment you remove hope, then there's no reason to live. Why do people commit su***de? Because they have lost hope. Why do people stop dreaming? Because they have lost hope. Why do people stop striving? Because they have lost hope.

The first reading reminds us that the coming of the Spirit gives us hope. We can dream dreams again. We can aspire again. Things will happen, not according to our wishes, but according to the grace of God. What is a simple manifestation of the Holy Spirit? A person with a spirit, number one, is a person made aware of his sin and led to repentance. A person who has the spirit becomes aware of sin and turns away from sin by repenting from his sin.

What is the sad story? Many of us have lost the sense of sin.

Second, if the Spirit is in you, you live in the truth. The predicament of a catechist. That whatever you think is right today might be wrong in the future, and what is wrong today will be accepted as right in the future. And I simply said, "Truth is never about facts. Facts can be changed, but the truth we are talking about is Jesus." I am the way and the truth and the life. Jesus will never change.

Why did Jesus ascend to heaven? One simple answer, that He will sit at the right hand of the Father, so He will judge the living and the dead. He will judge whether you live in the truth or in lies. Totoo ba 'yan? Naiinis tayo. Ngayon lang ako nakadinig. Galing ako sa pilgrimage. Binabantayan ko naman ang balita sa Pilipinas. Mambabatas ka. Lumuluha ka dahil walang nagkumusta sa iyo. Ano ba naman 'yan? Kumusta ka. Ni hindi mo nga kami kinukumusta? Ang hirap. Very entitled. You are voted so that you will serve, not to demand. Live in the truth.

Third, if you have the spirit, then you become a better person today than yesterday. You try to become a better person. "May sasabihin ako. Ating-atin lang." Chismis yan.

"Opo." Sabi niya, "Kabata 'nyong pari, kaka-ordain niyo lang. Hindi na kayo nahiya. May kasama kayong babae na umiiyak sa mall. Nabuntisan niyo siguro." Grabe. Sabi ko, "Taga-saan ho kayo?" Tinatawagan niya ako. Nasa Taguig ako noon. "Taga-saan ho kayo?" Napaka-tsismoso. Pinagmamalaki pa, naglilingkod siya sa simbahan.

You must be aware of sin and turn away from sin. You live in the truth. You make your life better today than yesterday. You improve. You are the source of peace and not division. You cannot prevent people from leaving the church. Some people leave the church, and you cannot prevent them from leaving the church. But hopefully, you are not the reason for them to leave the church.

Mahirap yung nakaupo tayong ganyan. Feeling natin tayo ang may-ari ng upuan. Naka-ilang parokya na ako. The same ang sakit ng maraming nagsisimba. Ano yun? Feeling niya, kaniyang upuan ’yan. Kamakailan dito, may nag-away. Sinigawan ng isang matanda, "Akin ‘yan." "Ha?" Sabi ko. "Hindi ko alam na nabili niya ‘yan. Pang-apat na taon ko na ito. Hindi naman ako nagbebenta ng upuan. Paano napunta sa kaniya ‘yan?" "Hindi na ako magsisimba diyan, Father." Well, it's a sad story. We are so entitled.

To live in the Spirit is to live in peace. And if you read the letter of Paul to the Galatians, you will find the fruit of the Spirit. And you ask yourself, "Nabubuhay ba ako sa pag-ibig? Nabubuhay ba ako sa kapayapaan? Nabubuhay ba ako, sabi nga, sa kahinahunan?” Gentleness or meekness. Meekness is not a sign of weakness. Meekness is strength under control.

Lo and behold, meron. Bakit? Natatagalan siya doon sa isang umaalis. Busina ng busina. Para kayong nagmamadaling mamatay. Ask yourself, mayroon bang pagbabago sa buhay mo kumpara noon at ngayon?

Have you become a better person? Ask yourself.

Before we talk of a better world, let us first talk of how we can make a better family. Without a better family, there's no better church, and there's no better world. The Spirit was given so that we may live a life pleasing to God. And this is our prayer, "Lord, make my life pleasing to you."

Going back to what I've said, to have the Spirit is to live in the truth, being aware of sin, turning away from sin, living in peace, living in communion, and hopefully, our lives become better today than yesterday.

You have noticed perhaps the change of tone. Before, Jesus would always say, "If you believe me, you believe the one who sent me." But in today's gospel, "If you believe in the one I send, you receive me." Look at the focus from the Father to the Son, to the disciples. Let me repeat it. If you believe me, you believe the one who sent me. If you receive the one I send, you receive me. Why? Because we all know that later on, Jesus has to go. Despite the resurrection, he has to leave us in ascension so that he can send the Holy Spirit. And through the Holy Spirit, he will send his disciples to us, among us, and it might be you being sent.

What is in the first reading? And this is the problem. Sometimes we question who God has sent. This is the common problem, not sometimes, but most of the time, we question who God has sent. Bakit? In every Simbang Gabi, you have heard the genealogy of Jesus, the history of his descendants, that it is clear that not all his relatives are good.

Because if you reject the one being sent out because of your biases, then the problem is in you.

Sayang. Sayang pag para sa Diyos? Bakit naman sayang? Ano palagi sagot, “Pogi eh. Bakit? Pangit ba kami?" I'm not kidding.

Why? That's a big question, why? Why can we not accept that we are the ones being sent? Why can't you accept that your children, your son, your daughter, are being called to the vocation? Why?

Ayaw magtrabaho." Naku, ‘yan pa ang gagawin mong pari: ayaw magtrabaho. Anong klaseng pari yan? O kaya, "Father, pagpariin mo nga ito babaero. Bibigyan mo pa ng problema ang simbahan?" I hope you're getting the point. If you are called, say yes. You cannot question why, because it is God who sent. And if you are received, you are not only being received, God is being received through you. Yes, you can be rejected. But if you are rejected, remember this: they are also rejecting God.

No one is good enough to be called. But no one is bad enough to be called. Do not forget this. Regardless, I hope you pray that you are willing to be sent. Father, I'm too old to become a priest. Well, maybe not the priesthood. Remember this: Abraham was called and sent by God at the age of 75. Can you imagine that? But I hope you are willing to be called.

Again, no one is worthy among us. But hopefully, it will be a joy if you are called to serve. Nobody is worthy, but hopefully, it will be a joy if you are being called to serve. Minsan yung ayaw mo yung tinatawag eh. 'Wag mong kakalimutan. Those who receive me, receive the one who sent me. And through the mouth of Jesus, those who receive I have sent, receive me. Please pray about this. It might be you, it might be your children, it might be you. I do not know. But please, do not be afraid to be called. Do not be afraid to be sent.
