Feast of St. John Bosco | January 31
In the quiet of a forest or the noise of a playground, St. John Bosco teaches us the same holy truth: every young heart is sacred ground. ๐ฟโจ
He did not save souls by fear, nor form consciences by force. He chose another way. A way marked by patience, laughter, presence, and a love that stayed. Don Bosco believed that holiness could grow where joy is allowed to breathe. He trusted that when young people are loved, they discover for themselves what it means to be good.
St. John Bosco saw the future hidden in the eyes of the young. Even when society dismissed them as problems, he called them promises. He entered their world not as a ruler above them, but as a father among them, walking beside them, listening to their stories, and teaching them that God delights in their dreams. His Preventive System reminds us that reason enlightens, religion gives meaning, and loving-kindness binds hearts together.
Today, his legacy continues wherever a young person is encouraged rather than judged, accompanied rather than abandoned. Wherever patience replaces punishment. Wherever adults choose to be present, consistent, and kind. Don Boscoโs holiness was not loud. It was faithful. It was playful. It was deeply human and deeply divine.
On this feast day, may we learn again how to love the way Don Bosco loved: with eyes that see hope, hands that guide gently, and hearts that never give up on the young. May we become spaces of safety, joy, and growth, so that the youth entrusted to us may discover not only who they are, but to Whom they belong.
St. John Bosco, father and friend of the young, pray for us. ๐๐
