The Makati United Methodist Church expresses its unwavering support and prayers for all those affected by the recent unfortunate events that have brought our church into public attention.
We deeply regret that our congregation has been drawn into this difficult situation. It is our sincere hope that, amid the emotions and differing perspectives surrounding these events, truth, justice, and Christian love will prevail.
As a community of faith, we respectfully appeal to everyone to allow due process to take its proper course. Justice is best served when all parties are heard fairly and impartially. We therefore encourage the public to refrain from making conclusions based on incomplete or one-sided accounts, recognizing that every person deserves the opportunity to present the facts before any judgment is formed.
The measures undertaken concerning the church property were carried out in the exercise of the Churchโs responsibility to safeguard property dedicated to the worship of God and the ministries entrusted to it. These actions were implemented pursuant to the decisions of the appropriate church leadership and in coordination with the concerned local authorities. We trust that any issues arising from these events will be addressed through the appropriate legal and administrative processes.
At the same time, Makati United Methodist Church firmly affirms the dignity and worth of every person, especially those who are poor and vulnerable. We do not condone oppression, injustice, or the mistreatment of anyone. As Scripture reminds us:
โWhoever oppresses the poor shows contempt for their Maker, but whoever is kind to the needy honors God.โ (Proverbs 14:31, NIV)
We likewise recognize that every individual has the right to protect oneself and others from immediate harm, and that those entrusted with the stewardship of the Church have a corresponding responsibility to ensure the safety of persons and the protection of property dedicated to Godโs ministry. These principles are not contradictory; rather, they call us to act with wisdom, restraint, compassion, and respect for the rule of law.
Therefore, we call upon our members, friends, and the wider community to exercise prudence, restraint, and Christian charity by refraining from spreading unverified information, engaging in speculation, or making judgments without hearing both sides. As followers of Jesus Christ, we are called to โspeak the truth in loveโ (Ephesians 4:15), to seek peace, and to pursue justice with compassion and humility.
During this challenging time, we ask the entire Church to remain steadfast in prayerโfor all those directly affected, for those entrusted with resolving this matter, and for our congregation. May the Holy Spirit grant wisdom to everyone involved, preserve the unity of Christโs Church, and lead us all toward truth, reconciliation, justice, and lasting peace!
Makati United Methodist Church remains steadfast in its mission to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ, serve the community with compassion, and uphold the enduring Christian values of faith, hope, love, justice, and mercy.
โLet all that you do be done in love.โ
