The Salt and Light for Christ Community (SLCC, for short) is a Catholic organization of followers of our Lord Jesus Christ, whose mission is to help spread the kingdom of God through its evangelization activities. (See “Vision and Mission.”) It is headed by a Council of Spiritual Directors (made up of clergy) and a Council of Servant Leaders (made up of lay men and women). The Spiritual Directors provide spiritual guidelines to the Servant Leaders and entire Community, and also serve as Mass celebrants, resource speakers, and Encounter directors. The Council of Elders formulate policies and guidelines and supervise seven ministries. The ministries are responsible for directly planning and organizing activities and performing specific tasks and functions. (See “Ministries.”)
Members of SLCC gather every Wednesday evening to pray and sing and worship God, to listen to the Word of God, to briefly coordinate ministry affairs, and to fellowship with one another. The once-weekly meetings are called “prayer meetings” and are open, free of charge, to anyone who wants to experience a form of spiritual refreshment. Prayer meetings usually include short teachings or reflections on spiritual topics and healing services. From time to time, individuals or couples give witness or short sharings of an experience of God working in their lives. SLCC was established in May 1996 and is duly registered with the Security and Exchange Commission. The name “salt and light” was derived from Matthew 5:13-16 which basically urges believers in the Triune God to make a difference in people’s lives and to reflect the light of Jesus Christ so that people may turn to God and be saved. Council of Servant Leaders
The Council of Servant Leaders (CSL) is SLCC’s governing body, second only to the Council of Spiritual Directors. Its functions and duties include the formulation and implementation of Community policies and directions, overseeing the performance and spiritual condition of the ministry members, and ascertaining that all activities and behavior comply with the teachings of Scriptures and the Catholic Church. The CSL is usually composed of seven couples or a maximum of 14 individuals. Single members, widows or widowers, may also be selected as Servant Leaders.
7 SLCC Ministries
Mission Ministry. The Mission Ministry organizes the evangelization programs of SLCC, such as, Marriage Encounters (M.E.) Family Encounters (F.E.), Solos’ Encounters and Life in the Spirit Seminars (LSS). From 1996 to date, it has organized and conducted 31 M.E.s, 9 F.E.s, 24 LSS, 13 Solos’ weekends, and dozens of Singles Encounters. It coordinated and organized, among others, several LSS in Christ the King Parish in Greenmeadows, Quezon City, and in the Philippine National Police in Bicutan, Taguig. It organized several M.E.s for the Centex in Tondo and for parents of seminarians at Our Lady of Guadalupe Minor Seminary in Makati. Since 2011 up to the present, the Mission Ministry has been nurturing an outreach program in Molino, Cavite. Pastoral Ministry. The Pastoral Ministry is responsible for overseeing that Community members undergo SLCC’s spiritual growth and formation program, and that these members build relationships with one another. Beginning in 2002, it established “Caring Circles,” made up of 10 to 16 members (couples or individuals) who take turns meeting in one another’s homes to read and share on the Word of God, to fellowship and share their lives with one another. At present there are 16 Caring Circles which thrive in their respective geographical locations. The Pastoral Ministry organizes yearly shepherds’ recollections and takes the lead in matching LSS lambs with their shepherds. Praise Ministry. The Praise Ministry animates every Community event and activity with its music and passion. It provides music support at weekly prayer meetings, Eucharistic celebrations, all Encounter activities, and recollections. Singles Ministry. This is the only ministry which is made up exclusively of young unmarried people. Twice a year, it organizes the Singles’ Encounter, a special weekend retreat that aims to bring other young unmarried people to a personal encounter with God and to make them followers of Jesus Christ. Intercessory Ministry. The members of the Intercessory Ministry act as prayer warriors before and after SLCC activities, as intercessors for personal concerns of members and non-members, and as coordinators of liturgical celebrations of the Community. Support & Communications Ministry. This Ministry provides logistical support for all C.ommunity activities, including physical set-up and pack-up, food service, photocopying service, communications and promotions, and social media operations. Teaching Ministry. The Teaching Ministry develops and conducts the teaching and formation program of the Community for all members in order that they may grow in Christian knowledge and virtues.
