God has called us to walk in His purpose, but one of the greatest hindrances is trying to accomplish His work through pride, self-sufficiency, and our own strength.
Paul warned the Galatians:
“You foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you?” — Galatians 3:1
They had begun by faith but were being drawn back into relying on human effort and religious rules.
Legalism can become a subtle trap when we begin trusting our performance rather than God's grace.
Scripture also says: “For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry.” — 1 Samuel 15:23
Rebellion is choosing our own way over God's authority. It can manifest through control, manipulation, intimidation, and the desire to dominate.
God gave humanity authority, but that authority was always meant to operate under His rule. Jesus remains the true Head of the Church.
“He put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be head over all things to the church.”— Ephesians 1:22
Beware of Self-Sufficiency
Even our service and offerings can become centered on ourselves.
Cain brought an offering, but when God did not regard it as He did Abel's, Cain responded with anger instead of humility. The lesson is clear: God looks beyond what we give—He looks at the heart.
We can serve, give, and work for God while still being driven by pride or the desire for recognition.
The Enemy's Strategy
Balaam could not curse Israel directly because God's blessing was upon them. Instead, he encouraged them toward temptation, compromise, and idolatry.
The enemy doesn't always attack us openly. Sometimes he simply tries to entice us away from obedience.
So guard your heart against pride, rebellion, compromise, and self-sufficiency
Stay humble. Stay obedient. Stay under God's authority.
What God has called you to do will never require you to become independent from the One who called you.
