What does it truly mean to be happy? While everyday joys are important, Buddhism points towards a deeper, unshakable happiness – Absolute Happiness. This is different from the fleeting, relative happiness we often pursue.

Success is the fruit of hard work. The only things that can be achieved with ease are poverty and shame. Only by overcoming difficulties can one find light.

When Sakyamuni Buddha says that “we’re all alone,” he is referring to our soul.
Our eternal life is alone, in solitude. It has no company. Even family members can never understand each other completely. Husband and wife are separate individuals after all. This means that the world we live in, although it may seem universal, it is different for each individual who lives in it. In Buddhism, it is taught that we all have a mind called “Alaya consciousness” or Alaya Mind. It is our true self. It is our eternal life. It creates a world of its own, and we live in the world our own Alaya Mind created. I live in the world my Alaya Mind created. The world you live in is the world created by your Alaya Mind.
So, a husband lives in the world created by his own Alaya Mind. Understanding him completely is out of the question. The wife is living in the world her own Alaya Mind created. Only the wife herself understands it. Only the husband who created his own world can know of the world he lives in. This is true for all married couples, families, siblings, or very close friends. It is just not possible to understand the world another person is living in.
This is the reality of mankind that Buddha taught about in the parable of the traveler. But Buddha is not saying that it is needless to try understand others at all. It is important to try to understand others’ feelings. It is in fact essential when trying to maintain a good relationship. But the point that is being made is that it is an out sized ego to think you could understand others completely. We are capable of understanding others to some extent, but we are in complete darkness beyond some point. We have come to this world alone, and we leave it alone.

"How pleasant it would be if people did all they could for one other without seeking anything in return! One should never remember a kindness done and never forget a kindness received."
