May 6, 2026 Wednesday Prayer Meeting.
Devotion by Pastora Loriza Calo: 7 Types of Prayer
Prayer is not only asking God for something. It is how we come near to Him: in our joy, pain, need, worship, confession, and surrender.
(1) Prayer of Lament: when the heart is hurting
This is a prayer we offer when we are sad, confused, angry, grieving, or deeply burdened. Lament is not complaining without faith. It is bringing our pain honestly before God and choosing to surrender it to Him.
“Pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us.” Psalm 62:8
(2) Prayer of Thanksgiving: when the heart is grateful
This is when we thank God for His goodness, provision, protection, answered prayers, and even His grace in difficult seasons.
“In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” 1 Thessalonians 5:18
(3) Prayer of Petition: asking God for our needs
This is when we bring our personal needs to God: wisdom, strength, healing, provision, guidance, peace, and help.
“Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.” Philippians 4:6
(4) Prayer of Intercession: praying for others
This is when we stand in prayer for our family, church members, leaders, the sick, the lost, and those who are in need.
“Pray one for another, that ye may be healed.” James 5:16
(5) Prayer of Adoration: worshiping and praising God
This is when we praise God for who He is: Creator, Savior, Provider, Healer, Father, and King.
“The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork.” Psalm 19:1
(6) Prayer of Confession: asking for forgiveness
This is a personal prayer where we humble ourselves before God, admit our sins, and ask Him to cleanse our hearts.
“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:9
(7) Prayer of Surrender: trusting God’s will
This is when we give our worries, plans, desires, and decisions to God. It is saying, “Lord, not my will, but Your will be done.”
“Nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.” Luke 22:42
There are many ways to pray because there are many seasons in life. Sometimes we pray with tears, sometimes with joy, sometimes with deep need, and sometimes with quiet surrender. But in every kind of prayer, God invites us to come near to Him.
