We're inspired to share this thoughts of Sister Glaiza Talens after attending the FSY, she mentioned about Seminary, Studying the Scriptures and many more. Hope you'll find it inspiring as well.
Two weeks has passed since we made new friends and learned new things; but the spirit and joy that we felt still remains in our hearts and I want to share my FSY experience and testimony to all of you. Since the summer of 2018, I have heard from my friends of different Stakes how delightful FSY is. That it had a huge impact in their lives and how it was all spiritual and ‘life-changing.’ Surely, it was something I, too, wanted to experience. When I found out that we will have a FSY the following year, I was so excited!
But as all of our Counselors did, I knew I can’t just go in there as I am and that I had to prepare myself. I wanted to make sure that whatever happens, I had to attend seminary, study and memorize the doctrinal mastery, and complete the course. I had a goal to complete my personal progress and really ponder upon the Book of Mormon. But before I reached all of that, for reasons I’m keeping confidential, I started to doubt my faith in the Church and to Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. I felt that all the problems of the world came crashing down upon me and that I was alone and no one cares.
One night, as I was reading the Book of Mormon, I suddenly remembered my favorite verse in the Doctrine and Covenants that says ‘pray always that you may come off conqueror...’ (D&C 10:5). And so I prayed right then and there and felt the strong presence of the Holy Ghost comforting me. The love I felt was overpowering and I was weak in the knees from crying. I then realized that as I was going through the problems in my life, I have never once remembered to ask Him for help. I have never remembered that I needed to tell Him what I needed for Him to give it to me. Soon enough, all my burdens were lifted up and all I felt was pure joy and love and my faith started to flourish once again.
After I had completed the seminary course, finished reading the Book of Mormon and received my Young Womanhood Recognition Medallion, summer then came and so did the FSY.
No amount of secular knowledge can fill in what I gained from the program. All my preparations did not go to waste for I already knew what questions I have and what answers I’m aiming to receive. From the smile on everyone’s faces to all the talks delivered, everything was very inspiring and brought me immense amount of joy.
I testify that if we continue to do what’s right and keep the companionship of the Holy Ghost, we will be blessed and would not go astray. That it will guide us in our decision makings and would help us stay in the covenant path. I testify that we are more than what we make ourselves to be. Other people may never see the light if we continue to hide our own. Other people may never know the truth if we don’t introduce it to them. I testify that the Plan of Salvation is a perfect plan. I testify of the blessings we can receive through paying tithing.
I know that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is the only true church upon the face of the whole earth. I know that the Book of Mormon is true and it is another testament of Jesus Christ because I have read it and prayed for it’s truthfulness; and I invite you all to read and ponder upon it.
I know that Prophet Joseph Smith is the prophet of restoration. I know that if we keep the commandments and endure to the end, we can return to the presence of our Heavenly Father. I know that the atonement of Jesus Christ and it’s gifts are true.I know that we have a living prophet, Prophet Russell M. Nelson and I love him. I know that the leaders of the church are all called of God and I sustain them all.
I know that Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ lives and loves us all. I know that if we truly love Him, we will keep His commandments. This I testify in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
