May 17, 2026: Sunday Worship Service: PRINCIPLES OF TRUE CHRISTIAN SERVICE
Rev. Antonio Espiritu
TEXT: Mark 10:45: For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
Everybody wants the crown- but not everybody wants the cross. Everybody wants to be recognized- but not everybody wants to serve.
Yet Jesus said in Mark 10:45: “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve…
Our church’s goal: Grow, produce, serve.
Grow spiritually.
Produce fruitful disciples
Serve God and His people passionately.
We are called to serve, yet many serve with the wrong mindset.
True service is not defined by how much we do, but by how much of ourselves we put into what we do.
It is not measured by activity but by the attitude, motive and obedience of our hearts.
I. TRUE CHRISTIAN SERVICE IS CHRIST-CENTERED
It begins with the right focus- Jesus, not on ourselves.
Many serve for position, recognition and approval.
If Christ is not the center, then service becomes self- promotion.
Ask yourself:
Why am I serving?
Is this for God’s glory, or for my own?
- Colossians 3:23: Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters,
II. TRUE CHRISTIAN SERVICE IS ROOTED IN HUMILITY
True service is not about titles. It is about a willing heart to low.
You cannot serve effectively if you are full of pride.
- Philippians 2:5-8: 5 In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: 6 Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage;7 rather, he made himself nothingby taking the very nature[b] of a servant, being made in human likeness.8 And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death— even death on a cross!
III. TRUE CHRISTIAN SERVICE REQUIRES SACRIFICE
Service will cost you something: time, comfort, energy even your reputation when you serve.
Real service is not convenient, it is costly. If your service costs you nothing, it is little.
Serving even when you are tired, giving when it is inconvenient, showing up when no one notices- that is where service becomes real.
- Romans 12:1:Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.
IV. TRUE CHRISTIAN SERVICE IS DONE IN LOVE
- 1 Corinthians 13:3: If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.
Christianity is all about our relationship with God and our relationship with one another. It is about loving God and loving others.
You can serve actively but love poorly. And God looks at the heart behind the action.
Service without love is empty.
Do I just serve people, or do I truly love them that is why I am serving them?
V. TRUE CHRISTIAN SERVICE IS FAITHFUL IN SMALL THINGS
- Luke 16:10: “Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much.
God values faithfulness. Small acts matter to God. If you can be trusted with little, then you can be trusted with much.
Hidden service is never wasted.
Great servants are first faithful in small assignments.
APPLICATION QUESTIONS:
5. Kapag may pagsubok. Pagod o kritisismo sa ministeryo, paano ka makakapagpatuloy sa paglilingkod nang may pag-ibig at pagtitiis?
Real service is not always noticed. It is often tiring, sacrificial, and unseen.
But every act of service done for God is never wasted.
So keep serving.
Keep loving.
Keep obeying.
Keep showing up even when nobody applauds you.
Because one day, the temporary recognition of people will fade- but the eternal reward of God will remain forever.
