Today, on Good Shepherd Sunday and the World Day of Prayer for Vocations, we are invited to reflect on the profound love and guidance of Christ, our Good Shepherd. He knows His sheep, calls them by name, and leads them to green pastures. In a world often marked by noise and distraction, His voice remains gentle yet firm, guiding those who choose to follow Him on the path of love and sacrifice.
Vocations are a response to this divine call. Whether to the priesthood, consecrated life, marriage, single blessedness, or as lay members of the Third Order of Carmelites, each vocation is a unique journey led by the Shepherd's voice. It is a response to love, a commitment to serve, and a willingness to be led.
Saint Thérèse of the Child Jesus teaches us that the heart of every vocation is love. She once said:
"My vocation is love! In the heart of the Church, my Mother, I will be love."
These words remind us that no matter the form of our vocation, its essence is love—a love rooted in Christ, expressed through service, and blossoming in holiness.
For members of the Third Order of Carmelites, this calling is lived out through prayer, contemplation, and living the Carmelite charism in daily life. Inspired by Saint Thérèse, whose "little way" of love and simplicity became a path to holiness, Third Order Carmelites are called to embody Christ’s love within their families, communities, and the world.
Lord Jesus, Good Shepherd, guide us as we listen for Your voice in our lives. Inspire those discerning their vocation to respond with courage and love. Strengthen priests, consecrated persons, married couples, single faithful, and the Third Order of Carmelites in their commitment to serve You and Your people. Through the intercession of Saint Thérèse, may we all follow You more closely and live out our calling with joy and humility. Amen.
