REINA CORONADA | Today, we commemorate the 4th Canonical Coronation Anniversary of Nuestra SeΓ±ora de la Asuncionβ€”Ang Mahal nga Patrona sa Maasin.

The Holy See approved the petition through a decree promulgated by the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments on December 14, 2021.

A year later, the image of Our Lady was solemnly crowned by the Apostolic Nuncio to the Philippines, Archbishop Charles John Brown, assisted by Maasin Bishop Precioso Cantillas.

πˆπ‚π˜πŒπˆ | On August 2, 2026, the Saint Pope Paul VI Seminary community gathered once again to celebrate the feast day of St. John Mary Vianney. The Holy Mass was held at the Assumption in The Hills Parish, Asuncion, Maasin City, Southern Leyte and was presided over by Rev. Fr. Alexes B. Villarubin. After the Holy Mass we offer a birthday song of our beloved Rector, Fr. Alexes B. Villarubin.

During his homily he reflected on the grace of giving. Drawing from the Gospel concerning the miracle of multiplication of the loaves and fishes, he emphasized that God's grace and blessings that have been given to us are abundant.

Fr. Alexes also shared an inspiring story of St. John Mary Vianney. After St. John Mary Vianney was guided by the boy to the Ars, he gratefully replied, "You have shown me the way of Ars; I will show you the way to heaven." Through this story, Fr. Villarubin highlighted the priestly mission of bringing people to Christ while reminding them that any good deed can lead the way to God, such as sharing the grace you have received.

On August 1, 2026, the Saint Pope Paul VI Seminary gathered for the third Mass of the Triduum in honor of St. John Marie Vianney. The Holy Mass was held at the Seminary Chapel and was presided over by Rev. Fr. Jersen Jerome R. Paler.

During his homily, Fr. Jersen talked about the life of St. John the Baptist and Herod Antipas. He said that though St. John the Baptist was courageous and completely free, Herod was constrained by fear. He reminded the seminarians that fear prevents a person from fully responding to God’s call.

In connection with seminary formation, Fr. Jersen gave advice to the seminarians to face their fears. He pointed out that being ruled by one’s fear could block any personal or spiritual progress of a person, and instead of advancing towards God, they would remain stagnant.

He also reminded the seminarians who aspire to become priest's someday that they must stay near the source of all goodness, grace, and strength who is the Lord Himself. By choosing to be with Him through prayer, the sacraments, and faithful following, they will be able to conquer fear with the grace of true courage that only the Lord can give.

May the example of St. John the Baptist encourage each seminarian to choose courage instead of fear, to stay firm in the faith, and to trust God completely on their path to the priesthood.
