FIRST SUNDAY OF ADVENT: THE CANDLE OF HOPE

Advent is a season of preparation and anticipation that begins four Sundays before Christmas, leading up to December 25th. Each week highlights themes like hope, peace, joy, and love, guiding us to prepare our hearts and minds for the celebration of Christmas.

The term "Advent" comes from the Latin word adventus, which means "coming" or "arrival." For Christians, it is a meaningful time to honor the birth of Jesus Christ on Christmas Day.

During Advent, we focus on reflection, prayer, and spiritual readiness, often incorporating traditions such as lighting Advent candles.

THE LIGHT OF THE CANDLES
The light from the candles symbolizes the Light of Christ which grows brighter as Christmas approaches.

WREATH (CIRCLE)
This circle of branches from an evergreen tree symbolizes God’s unending love for all of us.

FOUR CANDLES
(3 Violet & 1 Rose)
Representing the four weeks of Advent with colors corresponding to liturgical colors used during the season: each candle represents HOPE, PEACE, JOY, LOVE.
