Flores de Mayo is devoted to the Blessed Virgin Mary and lasts the entire month of May. Flores de Mayo began after the proclamation of the doctrine of the Immaculate Conception in 1854. The name comes from the Spanish for “flowers of May” and can also be called Flores de Maria (“flowers of Mary”) or Álay (Filipino for “offering”).
