This day, March 21, 2026, SSVP members from the Senior High School Department conducted a meaningful jail visit apostolate at the Lucena City District Jail—Female Dormitory. With the guidance of their respective moderators: Mr. Jayson Librada, Mr. John Airell Alcantara, Ms. Christine Ilagan, and Mr. Aljer De La Torre, together with Ms. Claire Paraon, and Ms. Abegail Quinto—the members successfully conducted their “𝙠𝙖𝙢𝙪𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙝𝙖𝙣” with the 20 female PDLs to whom they were assigned.

Before starting the day’s agenda, an opening prayer was led by Moira Manahan. This was followed by opening remarks from Mr. Librada and the jail superintendent, SJO1 Christine Joyce Sarol. Afterwards, the masters of ceremony, Alexisse Puno and Aviona Flores, invited everyone to participate in an energizer through a dance activity.

At the peak of the activity, members gathered and engaged in meaningful conversations with the female PDLs. This provided an opportunity for both the members and the PDLs to share their insights, experiences, and personal stories. After that, a simple yet inspiring reflection is shared with the group by volunteers. Before closing the day’s session, gift packs and lunches are given to the PDLs. Closing remarks was handled by Mr. Alcantara subsequently the closing prayer led by Mr. Librada.

This meaningful activity serves as a reminder that simple acts of listening and compassion can create a lasting impact on others. It highlights the importance of empathy, understanding, and human connection beyond one’s circumstances. Through this apostolate, the members were able to not only bring joy and encouragement but also learn valuable life lessons from the stories of the PDLs. Ultimately, the experience strengthened their sense of social responsibility and inspired them to continue becoming instruments of hope and kindness in the community.

Helping Hand, Joining Hands

On March 14, 2026, the members of the Young Society of Saint Vincent de Paul (YSSVP) from Sacred Heart College of Lucena City conducted a meaningful apostolate activity in Barangay Daungan, Pagbilao, Quezon. Guided by their club moderator, Mr. Aljer Dela Torre, the group dedicated their time and effort to serve and teach children in the community.

The apostolate was inspired by the group’s patron saint, Saint Peter, who is often presented to children as a relatable figure of faith, humility, and leadership. Despite his human weaknesses, Saint Peter remained faithful and became one of the strongest leaders of the Church. His story is frequently used in religious education to teach young people about following Jesus, believing in second chances, and growing in faith. Because of this, many schools and children’s ministries carry his name as a symbol of guidance and hope.

The program began with an opening prayer led by Mr. Aeron Morales, asking for guidance, compassion, and a joyful spirit as the group carried out their mission. After the prayer, the group leader, Ms. Ferdeline Charmel Macatugob, delivered the opening remarks. She shared the message behind the theme “Helping Hand, Joining Hands,” explaining that when people join hands, they symbolize unity, cooperation, and the willingness to help one another. She encouraged everyone to remember that even a simple act of kindness can make a meaningful difference in someone’s life.

During the activity, the kuyas from the organization were paired with two children each. They guided the children through learning activities, sharing stories, and teaching values rooted in faith. Although the kuyas may appear strong and serious on the outside, they showed great patience, kindness, and sincerity while teaching the children. Their dedication reflected the true spirit of service and compassion.

This act of service mirrored the mission of Vincent de Paul, who devoted his life to serving and educating the poor. Like him, the YSSVP members aimed not only to provide help but also to share hope, knowledge, and faith with the children they encountered. Through this apostolate, the members experienced that service is not only about giving material help but also about offering time, attention, and genuine care. The smiles of the children, their eagerness to learn, and the bonds formed during the activity reminded everyone that true service comes from the heart. The activity in Barangay Daungan became more than just a community visit, it was a moment where helping hand and joining hands created a meaningful impact for both the volunteers and the children they served.

LOOK | January 24, 2025 — The Young Society of Saint Vincent de Paul, together with the Young Louisa, successfully carried out their apostolate at the Quezon District Jail. This meaningful outreach program was made possible through the guidance of their moderators, Ms. Carmina Fetalco and Mr. Aljer Del
La Torre, with the special participation of Ms. Angelica Rodelas and Mr. Kristian Tolentino. The activity aimed to bring hope, compassion, and genuine human connection to the Persons Deprived of Liberty through presence, listening, and shared experiences.

The program began with an opening prayer led by Mr. Renzo Amo and followed by the opening Remarks of SJ02 Yvette Paderna, she highlighted that even one action can bring lasting consequences, reminding everyone to be mindful of their choices. She also encouraged the youth to always listen and respect their parents, recognizing their guidance as an expression of love, wisdom, and care. The atmosphere quickly turned warm and joyful as interactive games were facilitated, creating moments of laughter, bonding, and genuine connection between the students and the PDLs.

One of the most touching parts of the apostolate was the opportunity for the students to engage in one-on-one and paired conversations with the PDLs. During these moments, the PDLs courageously shared their stories, daily struggles, and experiences inside the facility. The students, in turn, listened attentively, offering not judgment but understanding, respect, and compassion. Through these simple yet powerful conversations, the PDLs were reminded that their voices matter and that they are seen and heard beyond their circumstances.

A significant highlight of the program was the communal singing of the song Umaaraw, Umuulan by Rivermaya. The song deeply resonated with the PDLs, as its lyrics reflected the realities of their lives, filled with both pain and hope. The song reminded everyone that while life may be marked by storms, moments of light and renewal will always come. As the lyrics say, “Bukas sisikat ding muli ang araw, ngunit para lang sa may tiyagang maghintay,” emphasizing that hope awaits those who endure with patience and faith.

This apostolate served as a powerful reminder that every day brings an opportunity for change, healing, and personal growth. As the Young Louisa and Young Society of Saint Vincent de Paul members returned to their homes, they carried with them the stories of the PDLs, stories that opened their eyes to the realities of others and deepened their gratitude for the blessings they often take for granted. More than an outreach activity, the experience became a shared journey of humanity, faith, and hope, affirming that despite different life paths, everyone carries a story worth listening to and a future worth believing in.

Solemnity of Mary, the Holy Mother of God Feast day: January 1

Way back in 431, there was a bitter controversy among theologians over the role of Mary in the Catholic Church.

They debated the question: Who is Mary in God's plan?
In the end, the bishops declared that Mary is really the mother of Jesus and Jesus is really God. So it must be said that Mary is the Mother of God. The oldest Christian greeting of Mary was proclaimed when Mary's relative Elizabeth called her "Mother of my Lord." When Elizabeth welcomed Mary, she recognized both the great privilege God had given Mary and Mary's great faith in accepting it.
For centuries, Mary has been praised because she believed. She is Mother of God because of her faith in God.

The Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God, celebrates Mary's faith and trust in God alone. The Church wants us to imitate her faith. 💙😇
Mama Mary, Pray for Us!
