Jesus is the light we can always turn to whenever life feels heavy, confusing, or uncertain. Sometimes, we get so caught up in our flaws and failures that we forget to see the blessings and gifts He has already given us. Instead of condemning us for falling short, He gently calls us back and reminds us that His words are meant to lead us toward peace and a life closer to Him. Today, may we learn to trust His light more, recognize the gifts He has placed within us, and use them not for our own praise, but for His glory. In our own little ways, may we also become a light to others.

The Gospel, talks about Jesus being the “bread of life”, which could be broken down into two parts: the bread and life. We see food as a source of energy, a way to fulfill our hunger, and a means to survive. In the early times, people relied on bread every day to stay alive. So when Jesus says, “I am the bread”, He emphasizes that He is essential and He nourishes our spirits as much as food nourishes our body.

In the Eucharist, bread does not only symbolize Jesus Christ. It becomes the Body of Christ, so He gives of Himself as bread. So when we receive the Eucharist, we are being spiritually fed, and we are receiving Christ Himself. Being the “bread of life” is not only limited to life on earth, but it also talks about Jesus sustaining us now and bringing us to eternal life.

Spiritual nourishment could be done through prayer, scripture, and Eucharist. Filling our hunger with temporary, earthly things will only satisfy us for a short period of time, but the hunger comes back eventually. Jesus fulfills these hungers and promises that whoever comes to Him, will never hunger nor thirst again. This Gospel serves as a reminder that Jesus will not reject anyone who comes to Him, and those who believe will have eternal life.
