Last August 15, the Los Baños Ward gathered for a meaningful and engaging 𝐖𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐇𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 focused on food preservation and emergency preparedness.

𝐒𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐋𝐢𝐳 𝐀𝐡𝐫𝐞𝐧 𝐏𝐞𝐧𝐚𝐟𝐥𝐨𝐫, Relief Society President, opened the program by reminding members of the importance of being prepared, especially during this rainy season when emergencies can occur unexpectedly. She emphasized the value of having a 𝟕𝟐-𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐤𝐢𝐭 and ensuring that every family has essential supplies ready in case of an emergency. Her message encouraged members to take preparedness seriously and make it a regular part of caring for their families.

𝐒𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐑𝐮𝐭𝐡 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐞 𝐁𝐮𝐞𝐧𝐚 𝐀𝐠𝐮𝐚 𝐀𝐛𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐝𝐨, a culinary graduate and chef, followed with a discussion on 𝐟𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧. She demonstrated how to make jams and showcased 𝐡𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐦𝐚𝐝𝐞 𝐠𝐮𝐚𝐯𝐚 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐫𝐚𝐬𝐩𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐫𝐲 𝐣𝐚𝐦𝐬. The discussion highlighted how preserved food can be useful during emergencies while also providing opportunities for small businesses that can help members become more self-reliant.

A question-and-answer portion followed, where members asked about different food preservation methods. Members learned that various food can be preserved through pickling, making jams, and bottling. Jam sandwiches were also distributed during the latter part of the program, allowing members to taste the jams as part of the refreshments.

The ward then enjoyed a series of games that encouraged teamwork and synchronization among the groups. The activities brought laughter, connection, and opportunities for members to bond with one another.

Following the games, 𝐒𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐥 𝐏𝐚𝐬𝐚𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐞, a registered nurse, and 𝐁𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐆𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐥𝐝 𝐏𝐚𝐬𝐚𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐞 a Red Cross certified first-aider, NGO Volunteer Rescuer, and Elders Quorum President, discussed 𝐛𝐚𝐬𝐢𝐜 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐚𝐢𝐝 and how to respond to common emergencies such as nosebleeds, choking, burns, and other injuries.
They addressed common misconceptions about first aid and demonstrated the proper procedure for 𝐂𝐏𝐑 (cardiopulmonary resuscitation). The session also covered 𝐥𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐞𝐯𝐚𝐜𝐮𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐬, 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐚𝐢𝐝 𝐤𝐢𝐭𝐬, 𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐲 𝐠𝐨-𝐛𝐚𝐠𝐬, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐲 𝐡𝐨𝐭𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐋𝐨𝐬 𝐁𝐚ñ𝐨𝐬 To make the discussion more engaging, first aid kits were given as prizes to members who participated and answered questions throughout the session.

To conclude the program, 𝐁𝐢𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐩 𝐈𝐚𝐧 𝐏𝐞𝐜𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐨 delivered his remarks, emphasizing the importance of applying the lessons learned and 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐛𝐨𝐭𝐡 𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐝𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐚𝐬 𝐟𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐬. He encouraged members to continue developing practical skills that can help them respond effectively during times of need.

The ward members then happily shared a meal together, ending the afternoon with good food, meaningful conversations, and strengthened bonds.

🥗 𝐂𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐬𝐞 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡𝐲, 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐲 𝐇𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐲!🥗

Last July 25, the LB Ward Relief Society sisters spent the afternoon together learning, sharing, and celebrating healthier living through Choose Healthy, Stay Happy: 𝐍𝐮𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐡 𝐀𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐭𝐲.

The program began with a simple health check-in, where everyone recorded their basic information, including their height, weight, and BMI. This was followed by a session from RS Second Counselor 𝐒𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐌𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐞 𝐌𝐢𝐫𝐚𝐟𝐥𝐨𝐫, on 𝒎𝒆𝒂𝒍 𝒑𝒍𝒂𝒏𝒏𝒊𝒏𝒈, where she discussed daily nutritional needs, the importance of balanced meals, and simple ways to build healthier eating habits.

𝐒𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐋𝐨𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐞 𝐓𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐝𝐚𝐝 then led a discussion on 𝒈𝒖𝒕 𝒉𝒆𝒂𝒍𝒕𝒉 and shared practical tips on maintaining a healthy digestive system. Participants also enjoyed tasting natural strawberry yogurt made with DTRI yogurt and strawberry jam as part of the activity.

One of the highlights of the program was the 𝑸&𝑨 𝒔𝒆𝒔𝒔𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝒂 𝑹𝒆𝒈𝒊𝒔𝒕𝒆𝒓𝒆𝒅 𝑵𝒖𝒕𝒓𝒊𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒊𝒔𝒕-𝑫𝒊𝒆𝒕𝒊𝒕𝒊𝒂𝒏, 𝐒𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐒𝐡𝐚𝐢𝐫𝐚 𝐒𝐮𝐢𝐭𝐨𝐧-𝐄𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐚, a former Los Baños Ward member, now in Calauan Ward. She answered questions, addressed common misconceptions about diet and nutrition, and shared practical advice that encouraged healthier and more sustainable food choices.

To conclude the activity, sisters showcased a variety of healthy dishes featuring one special ingredient: 𝐌𝐚𝐥𝐮𝐧𝐠𝐠𝐚𝐲 (𝑴𝒐𝒓𝒊𝒏𝒈𝒂 𝒐𝒍𝒆𝒊𝒇𝒆𝒓𝒂). The tables were filled with creative recipes, including 𝑴𝒂𝒍𝒖𝒏𝒈𝒈𝒂𝒚 𝒑𝒂𝒏𝒄𝒂𝒌𝒆𝒔, 𝑴𝒂𝒍𝒖𝒏𝒈𝒈𝒂𝒚 𝒑𝒆𝒔𝒕𝒐 𝒑𝒂𝒔𝒕𝒂, 𝑴𝒂𝒍𝒖𝒏𝒈𝒈𝒂𝒚 𝒓𝒊𝒄𝒆, 𝑮𝒊𝒏𝒊𝒔𝒂𝒏𝒈 𝒎𝒖𝒏𝒈𝒈𝒐 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝒎𝒂𝒍𝒖𝒏𝒈𝒈𝒂𝒚, 𝑴𝒂𝒍𝒖𝒏𝒈𝒈𝒂𝒚 𝒔𝒂𝒍𝒂𝒅, 𝑴𝒂𝒍𝒖𝒏𝒈𝒈𝒂𝒚 𝒐𝒌𝒐𝒚, 𝑮𝒊𝒏𝒂𝒕𝒂𝒂𝒏𝒈 𝒕𝒊𝒍𝒂𝒑𝒊𝒂 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝒎𝒂𝒍𝒖𝒏𝒈𝒈𝒂𝒚, 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒎𝒂𝒏𝒚 𝒎𝒐𝒓𝒆. It was a wonderful way to discover new recipes while enjoying each other's efforts.

Thank you to everyone who helped organize, teach, prepare, and participate in this activity! We left not only with new ideas for healthier living but also with a greater appreciation for caring for the bodies Heavenly Father has entrusted to us. 💚

Today we celebrate the Savior’s victory over death and the hope He gives each of us. Grateful to gather, worship, and rejoice together as one family in Los Baños Ward.
