“Close to Religion, Far from God”

Matthew 15:8
“These people honor Me with their lips, but their hearts are far from Me.”

Questions to Reflect On:
Do I know church activities more than I know God’s voice?

It is possible to sit in church every Sabbath…
and still be far from God.

You can sing every hymn.
Lead a ministry.
Preach a sermon.
Give offerings faithfully.

Yet your heart may be distant.

In Matthew 15:8, Jesus warned about people who honor God with their lips — but their hearts are far away. Religion can look holy on the outside while the inside is dry.

Religion is activity.
Relationship is intimacy.

Religion is routine.
Relationship is connection.

Religion focuses on performance.
Relationship focuses on presence.

You can know doctrine — but not know Him.
You can defend truth — but lack love.
You can appear spiritual — but be spiritually empty.

The most dangerous place to be is not outside the church.
It is inside the church without a living connection to Christ.

God is not impressed by outward appearance.
He desires a surrendered heart.

Reflection:

Ask yourself quietly:

When I pray, do I feel close to God — or just reciting words?

When I worship, am I moved by love — or by habit?

If no one saw my service, would I still serve?

True Christianity is not about being near sacred things.
It is about being near a Holy God.

The goal is not just to attend church.
The goal is to walk with Christ daily.

Because it is possible to be close to religion…
and still be far from God.

But today, the distance can be closed.

One sincere prayer.
One honest surrender.
One real conversation with Him.

And the heart that was far — can come home.
