“Peace, Be Still” — Even the Storm Obeys Jesus
When Jesus Christ said, “Peace, be still,” the storm stopped. The same Savior who calmed the sea can also calm the storms inside your heart.
In Mark 4:35–41, the disciples were terrified as a violent storm shook their boat. Waves crashed around them while Jesus seemed to be asleep. In fear they cried, “Master, do You not care that we are perishing?” Then Jesus arose and rebuked the wind saying, “Peace, be still.” Immediately the sea became calm.
This story reminds us that:
Storms can happen even when Jesus is in our boat.
Fear often makes us forget God’s presence.
Jesus has power over both natural storms and spiritual struggles.
Sometimes the greatest miracle is not the removal of the storm, but the peace Christ gives while we pass through it.
EGW explained that the disciples’ fear came because they looked at the waves more than at Christ. She taught that many Christians do the same during life’s troubles. But when we trust Jesus completely, His peace can quiet anxiety, doubt, and discouragement.
She also emphasized that Christ is never indifferent to our suffering. Even when heaven seems silent, God is still present and in control.
Do not let the noise of the storm become louder than the voice of God.
The same Jesus who calmed the sea is able to calm:
your worries,
your discouragement,
your family problems,
your hidden battles.
When life becomes overwhelming, remember His words:
“Peace, be still.”
Because when Jesus speaks peace, fear loses its power.
