As millions of Filipinos choose to rise up, amid the scandal of subpar and ghost flood control programs, they choose the righteous struggle against systemic corruption. They remember the wounds inflicted on the nation by unjust, self-serving governance and say never again. They hope anew more for good governance.

The Youth of the Iglesia Filipina Independiente encourage the faithful to reflect on what Ephesians 5:11 instructs: "Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them." We also invite everyone to prayer with us.

Together with the Executive Commission and the Supreme Council of Bishops, we enjoin all members of the IFI "to bring [the issues of corruption] into prayer and discussion in their congregations, and to lead the faithful to join the expanding protest seeking accountability and, ultimately, good governance."

The IFI is a Christian denomination that broke away from the Catholic Church in 1902 due to alleged mistreatment of Filipinos by Spanish rulers, most common the Gomburza. The statement recalls the beginnings of the Aglipayan movement during the Philippine Revolution against Spanish colonial rule from 1896 to 1898. It stressed that Aglipayans were not against the Catholic Church, but rather against the continued dominance of Spanish bishops and priests in the country.

In 1980, the Philippine Episcopal Church had already affirmed in a signed agreement its mutual recognition of baptism with the Catholic Church.

The Philippine Episcopal Church and Philippine Independent Church is now united with the Philippine Catholic Church.

The Philippine Catholic Church and the Iglesia Filipina Independiente released a joint statement in August 2021 vowing to continue the healing process of fractured relationships between the two churches. the historic document titled “Celebrating the Gift of Faith, Learning from the Past and Journeying Together”, the churches pledged to pursue the dialogue in the spirit of repentance and forgiveness.

The Parish of Lopez Jaena is celebrating with great joy as we welcome our new priest, Reverend Father Joel Agad and Ate Charina Agad to our community. Father Joel comes to us with a wealth of experience and knowledge, and we are blessed to have him as our spiritual leader.

As we begin this new chapter together, let us remember that we are all here to support one another in our faith journey. Let us show Father Joel and ate Cha the same warmth and kindness to strengthen our relationship for the betterment and harmonization of our church and the society.

As we embrace the duality of February 14, 2024—Valentine's Day and Ash Wednesday—let us reflect on the profound themes of 𝙡𝙤𝙫𝙚, 𝙨𝙖𝙘𝙧𝙞𝙛𝙞𝙘𝙚, and 𝙧𝙚𝙣𝙚𝙬𝙖𝙡.

On Valentine's Day, may we celebrate the love that binds us together as faithfuls, embracing the love of God, family, and friends with gratitude and joy.

On Ash Wednesday, may we enter into a season of introspection, repentance, and spiritual renewal, recognizing our need for God's mercy and grace.

In the convergence of these two observances, may we find inspiration to love more deeply, forgive more readily, and draw closer to God and one another.

Wishing you a blessed Valentine's Day and a meaningful Ash Wednesday, filled with the love and presence of our Savior, Jesus Christ-our Heavenly Father's only begotten Son.
