We prayed a novena to Padre Pio for my 13โ€‘yearโ€‘old son, who was dying of cancer. One night I heard him cry out, but when I rushed in, he was peacefully asleep. Then I saw Padre Pioโ€™s picture glowing in the room. I closed the doors, yet the light remained, and when I touched it, it felt real. Soon the glow faded. By morning, my sonโ€™s tumor was gone, and the doctors could find nothing. A miracle only possible by the grace of God, and St. Padre Pio.

Today, we commemorate Saint Anthony, Abbot, the great father of monastic life and a model of radical discipleship. Leaving behind wealth and comfort, Saint Anthony embraced a life of prayer, solitude, and self-denial in the desert, seeking God alone and trusting fully in His providence.

Through prayer, fasting, and spiritual discipline, Saint Anthony battled temptation and grew in holiness, teaching the Church that true strength is found in surrender to God. His life reminds us that the desert is not a place of emptiness, but a place of encounterโ€”where the soul is purified, faith is deepened, and Godโ€™s voice is more clearly heard.

As we honor Saint Anthony, Abbot, we are invited to examine our own lives: to let go of attachments that distance us from God, to cultivate silence and prayer, and to live with simplicity and trust in the Lord. May his example inspire us to seek God above all else and to persevere in faith amid the struggles of daily life.

The Santo Niรฑo teaches us to rely completely on God, to live with joyful obedience, and to place our confidence in His loving care.
