💒 A Sacred Role at the Heart of the Mass

🙏 Who is an Altar Server?
An altar server is a devoted helper who assists the priest during the Holy Mass and other liturgical celebrations.

🕊️ Their Role
• Carry the cross and candles in procession
• Prepare the altar and sacred vessels
• Hold the Missal for the priest
• Assist during the offertory

🔔 Sacred Duties
• Ring the bells at the consecration
• Assist with incense when used
• Help maintain the flow of the liturgy

💖 A Life of Reverence
Altar servers lead by example through:
• Silence and focus
• Respectful gestures (bowing, kneeling)
• Deep love for the Eucharist

✨ More Than a Task
Serving at the altar is a ministry—
a way of serving God, growing in faith,
and drawing closer to Jesus.

AN OPEN LETTER TO ALL SSLG AND SSC OFFICERS THROUGHOUT THE PHILIPPINES

Dear SSLG and SSC Officers,

As February 14 approaches and schools prepare for Valentine's Day celebrations, it has come to our attention that some institutions are planning "mock wedding" activities, commonly known as marriage booths, as part of their programs.

With due respect, we humbly request that if such activities are to be organized, please refrain from involving Sacristans (Altar Servers) or making use of their sacred vestments, particularly the Sutana (Soutane), Alba (Alb) and Cassock. These vestments are set apart for liturgical and sacred use within the Church and should not be utilized for entertainment or non-religious activities.

We also kindly ask that organizers avoid incorporating elements that closely resemble Catholic wedding rites or other sacred ceremonies. If there is a plan to create replicas of sacred attire or symbols for the purpose of the activity, we strongly encourage the inclusion of clear disclaimers stating that these are not authentic sacred garments nor official Church rites.

Furthermore, we appeal for the same level of sensitivity and discretion in social media postings, including Facebook and other platforms, to prevent confusion or misunderstanding regarding the sacredness of the Sacrament of Marriage.

Marriage is a holy covenant, and sacred symbols deserve reverence and proper respect. We trust in your leadership and understanding in upholding these values within your respective schools. God bless us all always

ORDINARY TIME IN TWO PARTS

The Catholic liturgical calendar divides Ordinary Time into two parts. The first part begins after the Christmas season, following the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord, and continues until Ash Wednesday, which marks the beginning of Lent. This period focuses on the early ministry of Jesus and his teachings.

The second part of Ordinary Time starts after Pentecost, following the Easter season, and continues until the beginning of Advent. During this time, the Church reflects on the mission of Christ and the growth of the Church, encouraging the faithful to live out the teachings of Jesus in daily life.

“CALLED TO SERVE, NOT TO IMPRESS.”

Ang tunay na Paglilingkod ay hindi nasusukat sa palakpakan, papuri, o pagkilala ng tao. Ito ay nasusukat sa katapatan ng puso at sa kahandaang maglingkod kahit walang nakakakita. Tinawag tayo hindi upang ipakita ang sarili, kundi upang ialay ang sarili—sa Diyos at sa kapwa. Sa bawat tahimik na gawain, sa bawat sakripisyo, at sa bawat simpleng “oo” sa tawag ng paglilingkod, doon tunay na nagiging makabuluhan ang ating misyon. Sapagkat kapag ang layunin ay maglingkod, ang Diyos ang siyang pinapapurihan, hindi ang ating sarili. 🙏
