But when he saw how strong the wind was he became frightened; and, beginning to sink, he cried out, “Lord, save me!” - Matthew 14:30

JESUS SAVED AND ASKED PETER WHO SANK, "MAN OF LITTLE FAITH, WHY DID YOU DOUBT?" LORD JESUS, THE STORMS OF LIFE BUFFET AND DROWN ME WHENEVER MY FAITH IS WEAK AND I TRUST IN MY FEEBLE STRENGTH. DO NOT DEPRIVE ME, LORD OF YOUR LOVING PROTECTION. FIRM UP MY FAITH AND GIVE ME YOUR SAVING HAND.

Taking the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, he said the blessing, broke the loaves, and gave them to the disciples, who in turn gave them to the crowds. - Matthew 14:19

JESUS MULTIPLIED THE LOAVES AND THE FISHES TO FEED A MULTITUDE. THEN AS NOW, MIRACLES HAPPEN IF ONLY WE HAVE FAITH IN HIM. LORD, YOU'RE NEVER OUTDONE IN GENEROSITY.. LET ME DO WHAT I CAN, AND LEAVE THE REST IN YOUR HANDS, CONFIDENT IN YOUR ABUNDANT BLESSINGS.

Now Herod had arrested John, bound him, and put him in prison on account of Herodias, the wife of his brother Philip, for John had said to him, “It is not lawful for you to have her.” - Matthew 14:3-4

THE STORY OF JOHN THE BAPTIST SHOWS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN TRUTH AND JUSTICE ARE COMPROMISED, AND GOOD PEOPLE SUFFER. LORD JESUS, LET ME STAND UP FOR THE TRUTH AND DEFEND WHAT IS RIGHT. GRANT ME THE FORTITUDE TO BEAR WITNESS TO YOU WITHOUT FEAR OF SACRIFICE.

"Where did this man get such wisdom and mighty deeds? Is he not the carpenter’s son?" - Matthew 13:54-55

FOR THE PEOPLE OF NAZARETH, JESUS WAS A PLAIN CARPENTER. BIASES BLINDED THEM. TO KNOW JESUS IS TO BELIEVE IN HIM, THE SON OF GOD, MESSIAH AND SAVIOR. LORD, OPEN MY EYES OF FAITH THAT I MAY SEE YOUR MARVELOUS WORKS AND PROCLAIM YOU AS LORD AND GOD.

"Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net thrown into the sea, which collects fish of every kind." - Matthew 13:47

JESUS LIKENED THE CHURCH TO A NET THAT CONTAINS GOOD AND BAD FISHES, TO BE SEGREGATED AT THE END OF TIME. LORD GOD, MY ETERNAL DESTINY IS SHAPED BY EVERYTHING THAT I DO NOW. HELP ME TO DISCERN WHAT IS HOLY AND PLEASING TO YOU. MAY I BE NUMBERED AMONG THE SAINTS.

JESUS TALKED OF WEEDS TO REFER TO EVIL ONES AND GOOD SEEDS TO FAITHFUL CHILDREN. THEY'LL BE SEPARATED AT THE TIME OF RECKONING. LORD JESUS, MAY YOU FIND ME WORTHY ON JUDGMENT DAY. LET ME SPEND MY REMAINING DAYS DOING GOOD, MAKING AMENDS AND SERVING GOD.

SAINT OF THE DAY:
St. Nazarius and St. Celsus

Nazarius was a citizen of Rome whose father was Jewish or pagan. His mother was Saint Perpetua. Nazarius was a student of Saint Peter and was baptized by Saint Linus. During the persecutions of Nero, Nazarius fled Rome and preached in Lombardy, visiting Piacenza and Milan, where he met the brothers Gervase and Protase, who had been imprisoned and who inspired Nazarius by their example. Nazarius was whipped and condemned to exile by the authorities. He traveled to Gaul, where a young boy of nine, Celsus, was entrusted to his care after the boy’s mother asked Nazarius to teach and baptize her son. Nazarius raised him as a Christian. The two were arrested, tortured, and imprisoned for their faith. They were released on condition they would not preach at this place any longer. They preached in the Alps and built a chapel at Embrun, and then continued on to Geneva, and then Trier. They preached in Trier and converted many to Christianity, and they were imprisoned once again there. Celsus was entrusted to the care of a pagan lady, who attempted to make him abjure his faith. Celsus refused and was eventually returned to Nazarius.

An additional legend that describes their time at Trier states that they were tried by Nero there, who ordered the two saints to be drowned. Nazarius and Celsus were taken in a ship and thrown overboard, but a storm suddenly arose, frightening the sailors. The sailors pulled the two saints back on board.
The two saints left Trier and reached Genoa, and then returned to Milan, and were arrested again. They refused to sacrifice to the Roman gods and were beheaded.
