The Greatest Dedication
Luke 20:41-21:4

Thinking and Understanding
Jesus quoted a psalm (Psalm 110:1) to expose the religious leaders' misunderstanding. They thought the Messiah would be a political figure who would come as a descendant of David. However, Jesus revealed the deity of the Messiah — the Lord of David (v. 20:41-44). He then warned his disciples against the hypocrisy of the scribes: their problem was pride, which produced self-centeredness. Later, he saw the rich and a widow putting their gifts into the offering box. Then, he told that the poor widow had given more than anyone else. That's because she gave all she had, though she offered only a small amount— two pieces of silver (v. 20:45-21:4).

Who is Jesus?
Jesus corrects people's understanding of Christ. Jesus did not come to recreate a kingdom of David only for the Jews. Instead, he came to establish God's Kingdom for all the humans. Jesus will accomplish great things. Is our expectation as great as the greatness of his accomplishments?

When Jesus saw the widow's offering, he praised her. People easily paid attention to the dedication of the rich. However, Jesus observed the whole dedication of the poor widow. It means he saw her attitude, not the amount. Even today, Jesus keenly observes our genuine faith in God and dedication out of our love toward God.

Prayer: Lord! Help us guard our hearts against the scribes-like arrogance and hypocrisy and learn from the dedication of the poor widow.

The Faith of the Blind Man
Luke 18: 31-43

Thinking and Understanding
Jesus took the twelve disciples aside and foretold about his suffering and death. However, the disciples still did not understand that Jesus was the Son of Man who would suffer (v. 31-34). When Jesus was near Jericho, a blind man heard that Jesus was passing by. Thus, he called out to Jesus. Then, Jesus paid attention to him and asked, "What do you want me to do for you?" (Luke 18:41a ESV). The man replied, "Lord, let me recover my sight" (Luke 18:41a ESV). Thus, Jesus healed his eyes and declared, "Your faith has made you well" (Luke 18:42b) (v.35-43).

What Lesson is God Teaching Us?
Jesus was on his way to Jerusalem, where suffering and death awaited him. He knew there was no other way to enter God's kingdom except through the way he would take. At the time, the disciples could not understand how the cross, a symbol of failure and shame, could lead to glory. However, they would fully understand it after encountering the risen Lord.

The blind beggar sitting near Jericho as the lowest of low. However, he experienced the most precious grace among a crowd. That's because he had unwavering faith. He confidently believed that the Lord would recognize him and provide with what he needed, even though the others neglected him. Jesus indeed hears what the last pray to him quietly.

Prayer: Lord! Help me believe that the gift you gave me is more valuable than anything I want to get in this world.

Faith and Injustice Revealed in Prayer
Luke 18: 1-14

Thinking and Understanding
They taught his disciples about attitude they needed when they pray. An unjust judge changed his mind because of persistent pleading. Then, Jesus asked how much more God, the righteous and just Judge, would work faithfully to restore the rights of his people who cried out to him day and night (v. 1-8). In his teaching, Jesus used the prayers of a Pharisee and a tax collector as examples. The Pharisee boasted his righteousness when he prayed. However, the tax collector humbly confessed his sin and cried for mercy. Jesus recognized the tax collector, not the Pharisees, as the justified one (v. 9-14).

What Lesson is God Teaching Us?
We should keep praying faithfully without disappointment. That is the persistent prayer. Ceasing prayer because of no visible response is evidence of our faithlessness. Unconfident and doubtful prayer only brings discouragement to us. Since prayer is the first act of faith, the attitude of our prayer can reveal the true nature of faith.

No one can gain righteousness by their works. Instead, they can be righteous by God's grace. The Lord justifies the tax collector who confesses himself as a sinner, not a Pharisee who boasted about his righteousness. Let us not boast about our self-righteousness by comparing ourselves with others.

Prayer: Lord! Help us pray with persevering faith and patiently wait for the time when your will be done.

The Day of the Son of Man
Luke 17: 20-37

Thinking and Understanding
Jesus said that God's kingdom had already come to those who believed in him. In other words, the world under God's reign was inaugurated among those who listened to Jesus. They did not seek the worldly benefits. Instead, they lived according to God's Word as the Holy Spirit guided their minds (v. 20-23). Jesus also told them about God's Kingdom that would come in the future. This Kingdom would begin with Jesus' suffering and his death on the cross. Then, it would be completed by his Second Coming. That day would not be a day of grace but a day of judgment. No one would know when that day would come (v. 24-37).

What lesson is God teaching us?
God's Kingdom is where Jesus dwells. It does not matter if it is in a tax collector's home or a Gentile's garden. God's Kingdom is everywhere where Jesus' Word is present and people obey his teachings. In contrast, the holy temple will be a den of robber like secular gatherings if Jesus is not there.

People who believe in the day of the Son live differently. Those who prepare for the end of the world have a different goal in life, though they seem to live ordinary lives. Instead of living for their own benefit, such people choose to live for the Lord and their neighbors. Our daily attitudes and actions will receive righteous judgment on the Day of the Son of Man.

Prayer: Dear Lord! Help us have an eternal perspective, discover your Kingdom, and serve it here and now.

The Rich Man and Lazarus
Luke 16:-14-31

Thinking and Understanding
The Pharisees regarded wealth as a blessing and poverty as a curse. Thus, they scoffed at Jesus' teaching. Then, Jesus exposed their double standards. Jesus pointed out their custom of careless divorce and remarriage. Then, he taught that the gospel of God's Kingdom included the Old Testament and set much stricter standards (v.14-18). Through the parable of the rich man and Lazarus, Jesus showed that earthly wealth did not result from a godly life. Likewise, it is not right to generalize as if unrighteous lives cause someone's poverty. In other words, there is no causal relationship between wealth-blessing and poverty-curse.

What Lesson is God Teaching Us?
The Law reflect God's will. Thus, there is nothing useless in the law. However, it can vary over time while maintaining its essential spirit. For example, Moses allowed divorce while Jesus prohibited it. Despite such a conflicting difference, they both intended to protect the divorced women. Let us consider what may be the best practices in our time for reflecting God's will.

The prophets warned of the greed of the rich. And Jesus himself proclaimed blessing to the poor and woe to the rich. The rich have social duties as stewards. Thus, they should not neglect social poverty. The Lord will surely hold them accountable on the last day.

Prayer: Dear God! As a steward of your wealth, help me never ignore the poor.

The Shrewdness of the Dishonest Manager
Luke 15:11-32

Thinking and Understanding
Jesus taught about the wealth through the parable. A manager wasted the possession of his master. Thus, he was about to lose his job. At the time, he called the master's debtors and reduced their debt. When his master saw this, he commended his manager for his shrewdness (v. 1-8). Jesus taught them three lessons: first, it is goo to use wealth to make good friends; second, those who faithfully manage small tasks can manage the significant tasks of God's kingdom; and third, they should not serve wealth. They should only serve God (v.9-13)

What is lesson God teaching us?
Money can be an instrument of unrighteousness if we do not manage wisely. In fact, the sons of light might become the slaves of money when they manage it poorly. Money can help us gain people's favor. Much better is to use it generously to preach the love of God, who is the true Lodof money. Let us examine how we use our money.

Money enriches our lives if we gain it righteously and use it properly. Howerver, we become slaves of money when we serve money. When money begins to dominate our lives, we will ive desolate lives. What leads our lives right now?

Prayer: Lord! Help me serve my neighbors generously to manifest your love and generosity.

The Joy of Finding the Lost
Luke 15:11-32

Thinking and Understanding
Jesus told the crowd the parable of the prodigal son. The younger son demanded that his father give him his share of the inheritance. When he squandered his wealth and was about to starve to death, he decided to return to his father's house and work there as a servant. On his way home, his father recognized him from a distance. Thus, he ran to him, embraced him by the neck, kissed him, and even killed a fattened calf to celebrate his return (v. 13-24). Meanwhile, the eldest son returned from the field and heard what happened. Then, he got angry and refused to enter the house. The, the father did not rebuke his eldest son. Instead, he explained to him why he rejoiced together (v. 25-29).

Who is Jesus?
God is our father, who loves us generously. When his son returned, the father's joy was much greater than the pain when his son left him. Likewise, God also rejoices greatly when a sinner repents and returns to him. Some sinners committed terrible sins, so they should receive punishment. Nevertheless, we should be merciful to them. That's because God also waits for them.

What is God teaching us?
God responds to the genuine repentance with complete restoration. The eldest son failed to understand the heart of the father who had once lost his son. The father did not count the sins of his returned son. Likewise, let us help those who repented and turned away from their sins for their holistic restoration and resilience to stand up again.

Prayer: Lord! Help me embrace those who receive your forgiveness and accept them as my beloved brothers and sisters.

The Joy of Finding the Lost
Luke 15:1-10

Thinking and Understanding
The religious leaders blamed Jesus for having fellowship with tax collectors and sinners. They thought they should not interact with the unclean people to remain clean. Jesus spoke to God's will through parables: Like the shepherd who lost his sheep and like the woman who lost her lost drachma, God would be greatly pleased when one sinner returned to him (v. 1-7). If God finds his lost child, he would invite everyone and rejoice together out of great joy like the woman in the parable of the lost coin (v. 8-10).

Who is Jesus?
Jesus was not ashamed to interact with tax collectors and sinners. In fact, he was more pleased with those who acknowledged themselves as sinners and returned to him rather than those who boasted themselves as the righteous. Do we hate of criticize someone because that person does not meet our moral standards? Do we agree that Jesus will eat and drink with them if he comes now?

What is God teaching us?
Jesus earnestly looks for his lost children. He does not wait for them to return but goes everywhere to find them. Parents never forget one lost child, although they have 99 children. Does our church pay no attention to the lost sheep because there are many sheep in our pen? The one whom we give up might be the lost sheep that the Lord sincerely looks for.

Prayer: Lord! Help me have your heart and compassion for the lost souls.

Make Inside and Outside The Same
Luke 11:37-54

Who is God?
Vv. 39-40 | God wants his people to be the same inside and outside. He wants our inner purity to be reflected harmoniously in holy actions. Are my inside and outside the same? What efforts can we make to adorn our inside and outside beautifully daily?

What lesson is God teaching us?
V. 41 | True godliness is the voluntary act flowing from a clean heart. Those who wash only the outside and neglect the inside of their evil souls are like whitewashed tombs. They may boast of their outward holiness and seek praise. However, they cannot hide the inner stench. The Lord will value the rough hands of a worker who serves with a heart of mercy more preciously than them.

Prayer: Lord! Cleanse my heart so that I can live as a disciple dedicated to what is precious in your heart.

DAILY DEVOTION | February 27, 2026

The Sign of Jonah
Luke 11:27-36

Who is God?
Vv. 29-32 | Jesus is not only the prophet who foretells the Judgement Day, but also the King who rules the whole world with wisdom and justice. Therefore, those who encounter Jesus should repent as the people of Nineveh did. Moreover, those who hear the gospel should go out to seek the wisdom of salvation like the queen of the South. Is there anything more urgent and significant than the forgiveness on the cross and the new life through the resurrection? In our prayer, we should seek more faithful obedience, not the greater signs.

What lesson is God teaching us?
Vv. 33-36 | The light of the Word in our hearts will shine brightly, not be hidden, if the light of the Word is bright. Just as bright eyes make our body shine, the brighter light of the Word can flourish our lives more. If our lives are dark and hard, we should examine our souls to see whether the lamp of the Word is burning or not.

Prayer: Dear God! Keep the lamp of your Word burning in me every day. Also, let it shine through me as I obediently submit to you.

DAILY DEVOTION | February 26, 2026

The Kingdom of God is Here Already
Luke 11:14-26

Who is Jesus?
Vv. 20-23 | Jesus is the most powerful One who has defeated Satan. Satan became powerless before Christ. Then, Jesus calls all Christians to be the Kingdom soldiers. As Jesus' soldiers, let us proclaim his victory to those who are bound by Satan, those who have sold their souls for money and power, and those who have abandoned their dignity.

What lesson is God teaching us?
Vv. 24-26 | The demon-possessed man could be worse than before if he did not accept Jesus as the new Lord after Jesus cast out the demon. Do we fill our lives with God's Word and the transformed life after emptying our hearts through dramatic spiritual experiences and overflowing joy? God's grace is sufficient. However, we should not misuse his abundant grace to justify our partial obedience.

Prayer: Dear Father! Help me make Jesus the Lord of my life and know true freedom in him.
