Pope Leo XIV: ‘I am not afraid of the Trump administration’

Pope Leo XIV said he will continue speaking out "loudly" against war and promoting peace, stressing that his mission is not political.

Speaking to journalists aboard a papal flight to Algeria on Monday, April 13, the pope responded to a question about a post by Donald Trump.

“I think people who read it will be able to draw their own conclusions. I am not a politician, and I have no intention of entering into a debate with him,” Pope Leo said. “Rather, let us always seek peace and put an end to wars.”

“I am not afraid of the Trump administration,” he added. “I speak about the Gospel; I am not a politician. I do not think the message of the Gospel should be misused in the way some people are doing.”

The pope emphasized he will remain firm in his stance against conflict.

“I will continue to speak out loudly against war, to seek to promote peace and multilateral dialogue among states in order to find just solutions to problems,” he said.

The Holy Father also highlighted the purpose of his visit to Algeria, calling it both a personal blessing and an opportunity to promote unity and dialogue.

“We must always seek bridges in order to build peace and reconciliation,” he said.

Pope Leo XIV urges leaders: “Stop! It Is Time for Peace” at Global Prayer Vigil

Pope Leo XIV called on world leaders to end war and pursue peace during a Prayer Vigil held at St. Peter's Basilica on Saturday evening, April 11.

Around 10,000 faithful gathered in St. Peter's Basilica while many others joined worldwide in praying the Rosary for peace.

In his message, the Pope urged leaders to prioritize dialogue over conflict, saying, "Stop! It is time for peace! Sit at the table of dialogue and mediation, not at the table where rearmament is planned and deadly actions are decided!"

He emphasized the suffering caused by war, especially among children, noting, "Let us listen to the voices of children!" and shared that their letters reveal "all the horror and inhumanity" of conflict.

The Pope emphasized that prayer is not an escape but a powerful response to injustice, saying it is "the most selfless, universal and transformative response to death." He also reminded the faithful that peace must be lived daily in homes and communities.

Recalling the appeal of Pope John Paul II, he echoed the call for "no more war" and encouraged unity in building peace.

"Enough of the display of power! Enough of war! True strength is shown in serving life," the Pope said.

He concluded by calling on all people to reject violence and work together for peace, stressing that every person has a role to play in creating a more just and peaceful world.

Kan taon 2000, binoót ni Papa San Juán Paolo II, na an Ikaduwáng Domingo sa Octava kan Pasko kan Pagkabuhay-Liwát icelebrar man bilang Domingo kan Diósnon na Pagkaherak. Duwá an pangapodan kainíng celebracion.

Pinarà ni Jesús an mga iní kan nagpahilíng Siyá sainda asín tinaó an Saiyang katoninongan.

Anó an pagkaherak?
