Kaya tanong: May kapayapaan ba tayo?

Today is Pentecost—the moment when the Holy Spirit descended upon Mary and the Apostles.

When we speak of the Spirit, two things often come to mind: the Gifts of the Holy Spirit and the Fruits of the Holy Spirit. At baptism, each of us received the seven gifts. But having the gifts does not automatically mean the fruits are alive in us. The gifts prove the Spirit dwells within; the fruits prove whether we live as temples of the Spirit.

So how do we know if we are truly filled with the Spirit?
The answer is simple: we see it in the fruit.

Do we have love—not romantic love, but the love God has for us?
Do we carry joy—hope that endures even in the face of great trials?
Do we hold peace—the calm that remains in life’s storms?
Are we patient—especially in waiting for God’s answers to prayer?
Do kindness and goodness shine through us?
Are we faithful to our Christian calling?
Do we show gentleness and controlled strength, especially when entrusted with power?
Or do we easily give in to passions and emotions?

Brothers and sisters, we have already received the Holy Spirit. But may His presence be seen in our lives. On this Pentecost, let us pray for the grace that the Spirit may always bear fruit in us. Amen.

Many believe God is distant, hard to reach. But today’s Gospel (John 21:15–19) tells a different story.

When Jesus asked Peter, “Do you love me?” three times, it was proof that God always meets us halfway. He meets us where we are.

The challenge is that the English translation misses the depth of the original Greek.
In Greek, there are four words for love: eros (physical love), storge (familial love), philia (brotherly love), and agape (unconditional love).

In the text, Jesus first used agapas—asking Peter if he loved Him unconditionally. Twice Peter answered with philo—a lesser love, brotherly affection. On the third time, Jesus Himself used philo. And Peter again responded with phileis.

Do you see? Jesus was asking for unconditional love. But Peter, representing all of us, could only offer love with limits. And instead of rejecting him, Jesus lowered Himself to Peter’s level—to our level. He adjusted. He made the way for us to reach Him.

Kapatid, if you think God is out of reach, you are gravely mistaken. Perhaps all you need is to open your heart and realize: all this time, He has been right beside you.

God bless!

Our mission begins where we are.
Hindi kailangan maging sikat.
Hindi kailangan maging preacher.
Hindi kailangan sikat sa social media to start our mission.
