Yesterday, we celebrated the '𝗔𝘀𝗵 𝗪𝗲𝗱𝗻𝗲𝘀𝗱𝗮𝘆' or the start of the liturgical season of Lent. A day where we spend most of our time on repentance, fasting, and almsgiving.

"𝗥𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝘄𝗲 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗿𝗲𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗻. "

"𝐑𝐄𝐌𝐄𝐌𝐁𝐄𝐑 𝐓𝐇𝐀𝐓 𝐘𝐎𝐔 𝐀𝐑𝐄 𝐃𝐔𝐒𝐓, 𝐀𝐍𝐃 𝐓𝐎 𝐃𝐔𝐒𝐓 𝐘𝐎𝐔 𝐒𝐇𝐀𝐋𝐋 𝐑𝐄𝐓𝐔𝐑𝐍."

Today, the Church widely celebrates 𝗔𝗦𝗛 𝗪𝗘𝗗𝗡𝗘𝗦𝗗𝗔𝗬, A day where we Repent, and Believe in the Gospel. This day also marks the start of the 𝙇𝙞𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙜𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙡 𝙎𝙚𝙖𝙨𝙤𝙣 𝙤𝙛 𝙇𝙚𝙣𝙩.

What is Lent? Lent or Quadragesima in Latin word, means; the "𝗡𝘂𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟰𝟬" While the English name focuses on "lengthening" of days. This is also connected to the "40 𝘋𝘢𝘺𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘑𝘦𝘴𝘶𝘴' 𝘛𝘦𝘮𝘱𝘵𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘋𝘦𝘴𝘦𝘳𝘵" — This is where Jesus spent his 40 days by doing 𝐅𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠, 𝐏𝐫𝐚𝐲𝐢𝐧𝐠, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐛𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐓𝐞𝐦𝐩𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐛𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐥 𝐨𝐧𝐞.

In short, 𝘼𝙨𝙝 𝙒𝙚𝙙𝙣𝙚𝙨𝙙𝙖𝙮 encourages us to 𝐅𝐚𝐬𝐭, 𝐏𝐫𝐚𝐲, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐀𝐥𝐦𝐬𝐠𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠. May we be inspired by the Journey of Jesus in the desert, during those 40 days, we should not be tempted by evil, but rather "𝗥𝗲𝗽𝗲𝗻𝘁, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗕𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗲𝘃𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗚𝗼𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗹." Through Jesus, we can attain the Kingdom of God, through him only.

Today in Philippine History, 𝗙𝗲𝗯𝗿𝘂𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝟭𝟳, 𝟭𝟴𝟳𝟮, we solemnly commemorate the 154𝘵𝘩 𝘈𝘯𝘯𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘢𝘳𝘺 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘔𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘺𝘳𝘥𝘰𝘮 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘳𝘦𝘦 𝘮𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘺𝘳𝘦𝘥 𝘍𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘱𝘪𝘯𝘰 𝘱𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘴—𝐆𝐎𝐌𝐁𝐔𝐑𝐙𝐀: 𝐅𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐨 𝐆𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐳, 𝐉𝐨𝐬𝐞 𝐁𝐮𝐫𝐠𝐨𝐬, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐉𝐚𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐨 𝐙𝐚𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐚. Their martyrdom became one of the most powerful turning points in Philippine history and awakened the spirit of nationalism among Filipinos.

GomBurZa were falsely accused by Spanish colonial authorities of participating in the Cavite Mutiny of 1872, a small uprising by Filipino soldiers and workers who protested unfair treatment and loss of privileges Despite the lack of strong evidence, the three priests were arrested, given an unjust trial, and sentenced to death by garrote at Bagumbayan (now Rizal Park). Their ex*****on was meant to silence those who fought for equality and reforms, but instead, it ignited the Filipino people's desire for justice and freedom.

"𝐀𝐑𝐀𝐖-𝐀𝐑𝐀𝐖 𝐏𝐈𝐋𝐈𝐈𝐍 𝐍𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐌𝐀𝐆𝐌𝐀𝐇𝐀𝐋."

Bakit piliin natin magmahal araw-araw?

𝗦𝘁. 𝗕𝗹𝗮𝗶𝘀𝗲 was a 4th-century physician and the 𝗕𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗽 𝗼𝗳 𝗦𝗲𝗯𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲 𝗔𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗮. He is one of the most popular saints of the Middle Ages, counted among the Fourteen Holy Helpers due to his reputation as a powerful intercessor.

• 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗮𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗼𝗮𝘁𝘀
Blaise is most widely known for a miracle performed while he was being led to prison: he cured a young boy who was choking to death on a fish bone. Because of this, he is the patron saint of those suffering from throat ailments. On his feast day, many faithful participate in the 𝗕𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗼𝗮𝘁𝘀, where a priest or deacon holds two crossed candles (𝗯𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗼𝗻 𝗖𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗹𝗲𝗺𝗮𝘀) to the throat of the person while praying for protection from every disease of the throat and every other illness.
