AVRAHAM'S L**H L**HA JOURNEY
The account of Avraham's journey from Ur to Canaan begins two verses before the beginning of the week's parasha, L**h lecha: "And Terach took Avram his son and Lot the son of Haran, his grandson, and Sarai his daughter in law, the wife of Avram his son, and they went forth with them from Ur of the Chaldees to go to the land of Canaan, and they came as far as Haran and settled there. And the days of Terach were two hundred and five years, and Terach died in Haran." (Genesis 11:31-32)
Four verses into L**h lecha the Torah again picks up Avraham's journey:
Avram set out as HaShem had directed him, and Lot went with him. Avram was in his 75th year when he left Charan. Avram took his wife Sarai, his nephew Lot, and all their possessions that they had acquired, as well as the people they had acquired in Charan. They set out, heading toward Canaan, and they entered Canaan. Avram traveled through the land as far as the location of Shechem, as far as Elon, the plain of Moreh. The Canaanites were then in the land. HaShem appeared to Avram and said, “I will give this land to your offspring.” Avram built an altar there and made an offering to HaShem, who appeared to him. From there he moved on to the mountains east of Beit El and pitched his tent. Beit El was to the west and Ai to the east. He built an altar there, made an offering on it, and invoked HaShem. Avram then continued on his way, moving steadily toward the south. There was a famine in the land of Canaan. Avram went down to Egypt to sojourn there, since the famine in the land of Canaan had grown severe." (ibid 12:4-10)
