Why I Give: The Heart Behind My Offering
There are many reasons why I give my offering, and each one reminds me that generosity is an act of worship flowing from a heart touched by the grace of God. Giving is not pressure. It is not performance. It is my joyful response to the kindness of the Lord, and these seven truths guide my heart every time I bring my offering to Him.
First, I give because God is the source of every blessing. James chapter one verse seventeen says that every good and perfect gift comes from above. When I give, I acknowledge that nothing I have is truly mine. It all came from His hand. A heart that remembers its Source will never struggle to give.
Second, I give because giving is worship. Proverbs chapter three verse nine says to honor the Lord with our substance. My offering is more than an amount. It is a declaration that God comes first in my life. Worship is not only through songs but through surrender.
Third, I give because Jesus taught generosity. Luke chapter six verse thirty eight teaches that a giving heart receives according to the measure it gives. My offering becomes a seed of faith that reflects my trust in the promises of God.
Fourth, I give because the early church supported the work of the ministry. Philippians chapter four verses fifteen to sixteen show how believers partnered with Paul to advance the gospel. My giving joins me to the mission of reaching souls.
Fifth, I give because it helps those in need. Second Corinthians chapter nine verse twelve says that our giving supplies the needs of the saints. When I give, I become a vessel of God’s compassion to others.
Sixth, I give because giving shapes my character. Second Corinthians chapter nine verse seven says that God loves a cheerful giver. Cheerfulness grows when selfishness dies and gratitude takes over.
Seventh, I give because it reminds my heart that God is my ultimate provider. Second Corinthians chapter nine verse eight promises that God is able to make all grace abound so that we will have all sufficiency in all things. When I give, I choose trust over fear.
Giving is not losing. Giving is living with an open hand before a faithful God. As the saying goes, A generous heart never runs dry because it is connected to the fountain of grace.
