Despite the threat of the pharisees to arrest him Jesus went to nearby places and cured many sick persons. Some times we.face difficulties in ourr decisions to do something related for the common.good feeling helpless or afraid or discouraged. We must face these.difficulties with resolve that with our faith in Jesus and guidance of the Holy Spirit we can overcome these difficulties and thus achieved what we want for oursellve and others. Jesus did not only cure physical illness but fear and weakness as well. "Do not be afraid." He said.

Welcome the new year 2017 with much faith and hope even amidst uncertainties in our land and the world . Let us look up and hold on to Mary, Mother of God and of the Church for guidance as she leads us to her Son Jesus in high or low tides of our journey from the shores to eventual destination. As we journey let us put on the SMiLE of Jesus which stands for Service, Mercy, Integrity (honesty), Love, Empathy which are the core values by which he came and died for 33 years later after his birth. By putting on his smile we become living witnesses to his gospel, making differences and touching other lives especially the poor, individually or communually.

In today's gospel (Mt 9:9-13) Jesus picks a tax collector, Matthew, to follow him who eventually became one the Gospel writers. In those days, tax collectors were considered traitors and sinners and collaborators of the Romans who imposed heavy taxes on the Jews. Jesus was even derided by the pharisees for dining with sinners. Jesus told them it is the sick that needs a doctor, not the healthy one.
In the present context Jesus calls us to be bearers of His words whoever we may be and where ever we are. We may not be experts in His words. Only one thing is necessary: love and serve your neighbor.

In the Mary's Vineyard, our devotion to Mary, Mother of God, leads us to love and serve the poor.

"O Mary conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee."

O Virgin Mother of God, Mary Immaculate, we dedicate and consecrate ourselves to you under the title of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal. May this Medal be for each one of us a sure sign of your affection for us and a constant reminder of our duties towards you. Ever while wearing it, may we be blessed by your loving protection and preserved in the grace of your Son. O most powerful Virgin, Mother of our Savior, keep us close to you every moment of our lives. Obtain for us, your children, the grace of a happy death, so that in union with you, we may enjoy the bliss of heaven forever. Amen.

Feast day of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal, Nov. 27, 20l5, at Mary's Park, Labrador, Pangasinan with Fr. Alfred Viernes, assistant parish priest of Labrador, officiating the Mass. Merienda followed. May be seen also Engr. Conrado Quejado, receiving the Certificate of Appreciation as President of Bantay Bayan of Labrador, whose group installed the water pump and donated PVC pipes for the water supply at the Staff House. Domingo Vargas,president of the Lord's Vineyard and Domiciliary Visit may be seen briefing Fr. Alfred on the development of Mary' Park as venue of promoting devotion to Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal.

The recent typhoon locally known as Lando wrought heavy damages at Mary's Park, destroying trees along the road leading to the Park and the Grotto. The ceiling ofthe Staff House at the Function Hall where feeding programs are held was badly damaged. Electrical wires were cut off. The roofings behind the Grotto were blown away. We need your prayers and help to restore this place of wworship. God bless us.
