A PRAYERFUL STATEMENT FOR SENATE ACCOUNTABILITY

“To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.“
Micah 6:8

The Kalipunan ng Kristiyanong Kabataan sa Pilipinas (KKKP) calls the Senate to take accountability in processing the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte and the arrest of Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa.

To uphold truth and justice is an act of faithful stewardship and moral responsibility before God and the Filipino people. In these crucial times, silence in the face of injustice and delay in the pursuit of accountability only deepen the wounds of corruption, abuse of power, and impunity within our nation. As people of faith, we affirm that public office is a sacred trust, not a privilege beyond scrutiny nor a shield from accountability.

We condemn the dramatic events that continue to unfold as desperate attempts by members of the ruling elite to evade accountability while the very institutions of the state remain implicated in countless human rights violations against the Filipino people. It is deeply abhorrent that these political maneuvers and spectacles further stall the long-overdue impeachment proceedings against Vice President Sara Duterte and distract the nation from the urgent demand for truth and justice. These actions do not strengthen democracy; rather, they expose the deep crisis of a system that protects the powerful while the poor and marginalized continue to suffer. .

As Christians, we cannot remain indifferent while injustice persists and accountability is treated as optional for those in power. The recent happenings do not only undermine democratic institutions and erode public trust—they reveal the decaying and oppressive nature of a system marked by corruption, political dynasties, violence, and exploitation. We lament how the cries of victims of human rights abuses, extrajudicial violence, poverty, and systemic neglect are too often silenced in favor of political survival and elite interests.

The Gospel calls us to stand with truth and with the oppressed. Throughout Scripture, God consistently sides with the poor, the persecuted, and those denied justice. Therefore, our call for accountability is not rooted in political convenience nor partisan allegiance, but in our faithful commitment to righteousness, compassion, and the dignity of every human being created in the image of God. Genuine peace cannot exist where injustice is tolerated, and reconciliation cannot flourish without truth.

The KKKP therefore urges the Senate to fulfill its constitutional and moral duty with courage, impartiality, and sincerity. Let the impeachment process proceed without obstruction, manipulation, or delay. Let all allegations be examined with fairness and transparency, and let every public official be held accountable under the rule of law.

As people of faith, let us continue to act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with God as we recognize the injustices endured by the oppressed throughout history and even today. May the life and witness of Christ inspire us to become co-workers and march in the struggle for genuine peace, justice, and truth, and to collectively transform a system that perpetuates exploitation, violence, and inequality. For there can be no lasting peace without justice, and no true democracy without accountability.

𝗛𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝘄𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝘄𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗖𝗵𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗵? 🤔

As we continue our month-long celebration of the UCCP's 78th Anniversary, we look back on the long and faithful journey that has shaped who we are today.

From the early arrival of Protestant missions in 1898, through decades of cooperation, dialogue, and shared ministry, the Church journeyed toward unity.

This journey reached its historic culmination on May 22–25, 1948, when delegates from different Protestant traditions gathered at Ellinwood Malate Church and declared the formation of the United Church of Christ in the Philippines.

From many churches, one body was formed in Christ - rooted in faith, unity, and shared mission.

🍃 “That they may all be one.”

‎I’ll never forget that Samar trip it really opened my eyes to how tough life is for the laborers we pass by every day. Right there in Pasay, before the long ride, I saw this mother with her bags stuffed full of goods headed to Northern Samar, a solid 687 km away. She was begging the driver through teary eyes to cut the P1,500 fare down to P800. People around giggled, but it broke my heart. I get it, though, who am I to judge? With oil prices are high because of the tension between America and Iran, every trip’s a real squeeze. Still, her plea stuck with me, showing the quiet battles so many fight just to get by.

‎Inside the bus, vendors kept coming on board, one after another, selling pasalubong and little snacks right up to midnight. Their tired smiles hid how bad they needed that money for their families. Then, during our beach side trip in Samar, killing time in the shade waiting for the assembly to start this balut vendor sit down with us. We talked a bit, but then it hit me, did she even make any sales that day? She’s got her balut, quail eggs, chicken eggs, and here we are, asking about burgers, pizza, or some resto nearby. Felt so tone-deaf, our wants next to her hustle.

‎Hits even harder back home here in Benguet, where farmers in my own backyard are dumping crops or handing them out free because prices are very down the earth low, selling them will make them even more buried in debt, yet we keep importing stuff from abroad. Drivers, vendors, farmers and other labor groups they’re all pouring everything into this daily grind, where living wage is not living but "libing" wage. Carrying that weight now changes how I see things, that even my parents I see how hard they work yet we still struggle on living everyday with the inflation, and it’s pushing me and hopefully you to really listen, push for fairer deals, and pick local whenever we can. Let’s make it real, grab from that vendor next time, speak up for better prices, honor their fight. Fight alongside the laborers and struggle with them because if not, are we truly followers of Christ? ‎Actions must be done and they must be done right now. ‎Padayon!

“Honoring The Toiling Workers, Upholding Dignity”
A Pastoral Statement of the UCCP Council of Bishops

“Do not take advantage of a hired worker who is poor and needy, whether that worker is a fellow Israelite or a foreigner residing in one of your towns. 15 Pay them their wages each day before sunset, because they are poor and are counting on it. Otherwise they may cry to the Lord against you, and you will be guilty of sin.” (Deuteronomy 24:14-15 - NIV)

This Labor Day, we stand alongside Filipino workers who endure unjust systems—laboring under insecure employment, unsafe environments, and wages too small to provide for their families. As the cost of living rises, many are driven further into hardship, even as they toll to sustain the whole nation.

Scripture teaches that God hears the cries of those who are wronged “Look! The wages you failed to pay the workers who mowed your fields are crying out against you.” (James 5:4). To disregard the suffering of workers is to turn away from God’s righteousness. Genuine faith calls us not only to pray, but to act—standing with the poor, the oppressed, and those whose voices are ignored.

We uphold the call for just wages, stable employment, safe working conditions, and the full protection of workers’ rights.
Will we remain silent, or will we seek justice in the name of God?
May this day renew our resolve to walk with workers, honor their dignity, and live out a faith that pursues justice. For in God’s kingdom, every worker has worth, and every plea for justice is heard.

𝐇𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐢 𝐤𝐚𝐥𝐨𝐨𝐛𝐚𝐧 𝐧𝐠 𝐃𝐢𝐲𝐨𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐠 𝐎𝐢𝐥 𝐏𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐇𝐢𝐤𝐞

“𝙎𝙚𝙖 𝙡𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙡𝙨 𝙖𝙧𝙚 𝙧𝙞𝙨𝙞𝙣𝙜, 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙨𝙤 𝙖𝙧𝙚 𝙬𝙚!”

The climate crisis is most experienced by vulnerable countries such as the Philippines. Undeniably, it is further exacerbated by the real culrpits—corruption and the huge polluters, the imperialist countries and big corporations.

And now, more than ever, the young people within communities of faith are called, to understand through the lens of our faith, the struggles of the most vulnerable to climate change, the anawim and to immerse ourselves in the communities with the aim of a deeper and wider prophetic witnessing. And the recently concluded 6th CYF National Youth Camp is a testament to our commitment to becoming champions of climate justice as it served as a platform and an avenue for immersive learning, shared advocacy, and a stronger prophetic discernment.

CYF, the call is strong and clear: 𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗲, 𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗮𝘄𝗶𝗺 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗼𝗻𝗹𝘆 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘇𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘀𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗵𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻.

Let us then continue to use our voice to amplify the calls from the ground! Denounce corruption! Hold big polluters accountable! Let us sustain the struggle towards lasting peace based on justice.
