IN REMEMBRANCE OF BISHOP GREGORIO L. AGLIPAY

May 5, 1860 – September 1, 1940

On this day, we commemorate the 86th Death Anniversary of Bishop Gregorio Labayan Aglipay, a Filipino priest, patriot, revolutionary, and the first Obispo Máximo of the Iglesia Filipina Independiente.

Born in Batac, Ilocos Norte, on May 5, 1860, Aglipay grew up during the difficult years of Spanish colonial rule. He pursued his education in Manila before entering the seminary and was ordained a priest in 1889. His experiences as a Filipino priest and his deep concern for the welfare of his countrymen shaped his commitment to reform and national freedom.

When the Philippine Revolution began, Aglipay became closely involved in the struggle for Philippine independence. In 1898, he was appointed Military Vicar General of the revolutionary government. His involvement in the revolutionary movement eventually led to his excommunication in 1899.

In 1902, the Iglesia Filipina Independiente (IFI) was proclaimed through the leadership of Filipino nationalist Isabelo de los Reyes, with Aglipay subsequently becoming its first Supreme Bishop. The new church emerged from the Filipino people’s aspirations for religious, political, and social liberty, and became an important expression of Filipino religious nationalism.

For nearly four decades, Bishop Aglipay devoted his life to the Church and to the Filipino people. His legacy is not simply found in the institution he helped lead, but in the continuing call to faith, freedom, dignity, patriotism, and service.

He died in Manila on September 1, 1940, leaving behind a legacy that continues to be remembered by the Iglesia Filipina Independiente and by generations of Filipinos.

August 30, 2026 — The Mission of the Lord of Good Harvest joyfully celebrated the Annual Devotional Fiesta in honor of St. Roch, coinciding with the observance of the 14th Sunday after Pentecost.

The Holy Eucharistic Celebration was led by the invited celebrant, Rev. Msgr. Juancho Omaño, who joined the faithful in prayer and thanksgiving in honor of St. Roch, the beloved patron and model of faith, charity, and service.

A special highlight of the celebration was the Christening of new members, welcoming them into the Christian community and marking a new beginning in their journey of faith.

The celebration gathered the faithful in prayer, devotion, fellowship, and thanksgiving, strengthening the community’s unity and commitment to serving God and one another.

May the example and intercession of St. Roch continue to inspire us to remain faithful, compassionate, and ever ready to serve those in need.

The Mission of the Lord of Good Harvest held the blessing of the Chapel of Saints Philip and James the Apostle in Sitio Mansibanga on August 17, 2026, marking a significant milestone for the local faith community. The solemn blessing was led by The Right Rev’d Virgilio B. Amihan Jr., together with the clergy of the Diocese of Bago, as members of the mission and the community gathered in prayer and thanksgiving. The newly blessed chapel will serve as a sacred space for worship, prayer, fellowship, and the spiritual growth of the faithful in the area.

The occasion also highlighted the dedication and hard work of Mission Caretaker Rev. Deacon Marilyn Abarte, whose continued service and commitment have played an important role in caring for the mission and supporting the development of the chapel. The blessing reflects the continuing growth of the Mission of the Lord of Good Harvest and its commitment to bringing the Church closer to the people. The Chapel of Saints Philip and James the Apostle now stands as a place of faith, hope, and community, welcoming the faithful to gather and serve together in the name of God.

The faithful gathered on this Sixth Sunday After Pentecost for the Liturgy of the Word with Holy Communion, prayerfully reflecting on the Gospel of Matthew 11:16–19, 25–30, where Jesus invites all who labor and are burdened to come to Him and find true rest. Nourished by the Body and Blood of Christ received in Holy Communion, the faithful were strengthened in faith and encouraged to live out the Gospel with humility, hope, and trust in the Lord.

The liturgical celebration also became a moment of communal intercession as prayers were offered for the sick, couples and families, birthday celebrants, generous Sunday sponsors, and especially for the children and youth, that they may continue to grow in holiness and become faithful disciples of Christ. United in prayer, the community was sent forth to bear witness to God’s love and mercy through lives of faithful service.

“Pasantusa ining bino kag tinapay, ginahalad namon sa Imo, O Amay. Pasantusa ang amon nga hilikuton, ginahalad sa tanan nga tion.”

The offertory is not merely the presentation of bread and wine. It is the offering of our daily work, sacrifices, joys, struggles, and the very lives we live. As we sing Ang Daku nga Paghalad, we are reminded that God has entered our history and continues to journey with us, transforming ordinary gifts into signs of His extraordinary grace.

May our hearts always be guided to become more loving, generous to those in need, and steadfast in living a life of holiness. For the greatest offering we can bring to the altar is a life continually surrendered to God.
