Today, we share in the sorrow felt across Zamboanga following the recent shooting incident that has brought fear and sorrow once again. Behind the news are real people, families, students, teachers, and loved ones who are now carrying pain that words cannot easily explain.
How many more lives must be shaken before we take the time to notice the pain people may be carrying in silence?
A school should be a place where young people learn, dream, laugh, and feel safe. No student should have to wonder if they will make it home. Sometimes, a simple act of kindness, a conversation, or taking the time to notice someone can matter more than we realize.
โBlessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.โ โ Matthew 5:9
Being a peacemaker is not only about speaking against violence. It is also about choosing kindness, understanding, forgiveness, and love in the way we treat the people around us.
May this tragedy remind us not to simply grieve and move on. Together, may we pray, listen, and respond. May we notice those who are hurting, speak hope into their lives, and choose peace even when it is difficult.
Every life matters. Every person is worth protecting.
