"The Lord is my light and my salvation - so why should I be afraid? The Lord is my fortress, protecting me from danger, so why should I tremble?"
Psalm 27:1

Light is a common metaphor in the Bible for knowledge, truth, and goodness. As our light, the Lord is the source of understanding of life. Stronghold implies a place of security and safety. As our stronghold, the Lord will keep us safe. We're safe in knowing the fact that God is in charge and He loves us.

"In the world you shall have tribulation. But be of good heart, I have overcome the world."
John 16:33

Hardships, problems, and heart aches are promised by the Lord Himself. They are inevitabilities of life. But the Lord also said that He already overcame them all. If you're with Him, then you'll also overcome. Kapit lang kay Lord kapatid.

Practicing forgiveness is a cornerstone of marital unity. Set realistic expectations when it comes to marriage. Man and woman are both imperfect and will inevitably hurt each other, whether intentionally or unintentionally. If you want your marriage to last, you'll have to accept the fact that you'll have to do a lot of forgiving. Practice by:

📍Acknowledging the hurt. Forgiveness will allow you and your spouse to heal from hurts and move forward, restoring your relationship to a state of peace.

📍Expressing and apologizing. When hurt, openly express feelings. And when you're the one doing wrong, apologize sincerely and quickly.

📍Choose forgiveness. Forgiveness is a deliberate choice, not merely an emotional response. It involves deciding to let go of the offense.

📍Reconcile. Let go of the desire to get even and work toward reconciliation. Seek to rebuild trust and intimacy.

"For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you, but if you do not forgive others their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses."
Matthew 6:14-15

Marriage is not happily ever after where your spouse will make you happy all the days of your life. That person is imperfect and would commit many mistakes. Marriage, by God's design, is more giving than receiving. Marriage requires sacrificial love, modeled after our Lord Jesus Christ's love for His church, whereas He died for His church. If you're not ready to die the don't get married.

"Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her."
Ephesians 5:25

Extending forgiveness and unconditional love to your spouse. In that way, you are mirroring God's grace and fulfilling His design in marriage. Grace in marriage reflects how God loves us despite our faults.

"Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you."
Ephesians 4:32

"Bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive."
Colossians 3:13

"But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint."
Isaiah 40:31

The Israelites who first received this promise were worn out from their hardship. They had lived in exile in Babylon for several decades. Their perspective was darkened by despairing thoughts: “My way is hidden from the Lord, and my right is disregarded by my God." They thought God either couldn’t help or didn’t care. Isaiah uses a pair of words, faint and weary, three times in the span of a few verses because the Israelites were exhausted and burdened from the circumstances of life. They weren’t just weak in body, but weak in spirit.

Isaiah responded to these questions with his own: “Have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not grow faint or grow weary." You may grow faint, but God doesn’t. God is an endless source of strength, and he gives it generously. This is who he is. The ever-strong and never-weary One loves to help weak and weary people.

To avoid confusion and wasting time, you gotta have discernment.

📍Choose what is right.
"But test everything; hold fast what is good. Abstain from every form of evil." -1 Thessalonians 5:21-22
Test all things and hold on to what is good and beneficial. Let go of all others.
📍Involve the Holy Spirit in your decision making.
"When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come." -John 16:13
Pray before making decisions. Invite the Holy Spirit for He knows everything.
📍Choose what brings you peace.
"And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful." -Colossians 3:15
When somethings feels wrong, that's a sign that it's not God's choice. Peace is a true marker of God's will.
📍Choose what brings you clarity.
"For God is not a God of confusion but of peace."
If something brings confusion or strife to your spirit, it is likely not from God. -1 Corinthians 14:33

This is a call to make the most of your time and enjoy the blessings God has given you.

📍Your time on earth is short.
"Yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes." -James 4:14
The Bible reminds us that our time on Earth is short and fleeting.
📍You're commanded to do your best.
"Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ." -Colossians 3:23-24
God sees everything you do. If your life really is for His glory, it should show in your works. Be excellent in every endeavor.
📍God designed life to be enjoyed.
"I perceived that there is nothing better for them than to be joyful and to do good as long as they live; also that everyone should eat and drink and take pleasure in all his toil—this is God's gift to man." -Ecclesiastes 3:12-13
Enjoy the things that God allowed you to encounter. Recognize all of them as blessings.

Most of the time, the real issue isn't the problem itself but how our negative thoughts magnify it. A negative mindset can create more harm than any problem, real or imagined. When faced with a problem, take a moment to pray and reframe your thoughts positively. Focus on solutions.

"Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you."
-1 Peter 5:7
