Practicing forgiveness is a cornerstone of marital unity. Set realistic expectations when it comes to marriage. Man and woman are both imperfect and will inevitably hurt each other, whether intentionally or unintentionally. If you want your marriage to last, you'll have to accept the fact that you'll have to do a lot of forgiving. Practice by:
📍Acknowledging the hurt. Forgiveness will allow you and your spouse to heal from hurts and move forward, restoring your relationship to a state of peace.
📍Expressing and apologizing. When hurt, openly express feelings. And when you're the one doing wrong, apologize sincerely and quickly.
📍Choose forgiveness. Forgiveness is a deliberate choice, not merely an emotional response. It involves deciding to let go of the offense.
📍Reconcile. Let go of the desire to get even and work toward reconciliation. Seek to rebuild trust and intimacy.
"For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you, but if you do not forgive others their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses."
Matthew 6:14-15
