𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐇𝐄𝐁𝐑𝐀𝐈𝐂 𝐔𝐍𝐃𝐄𝐑𝐒𝐓𝐀𝐍𝐃𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐎𝐅 𝐓𝐇𝐄 "𝐆𝐀𝐓𝐄"

Gate - Shaar in Hebrew

𝐈. 𝐆𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐚𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐀𝐮𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲
In Ancient Israel, gates were the stronghold, points of power, and protection.

They represent authority, justice, community life, and spiritual access.

In Ruth 4:1-10, Boaz goes to the city gate, the public place where legal matters, witnesses, and community decisions were settled, to redeem Ruth and Naomi’s inheritance. At the gate, Boaz publicly establishes the redemption before the elders, showing that God’s redemption is not hidden but confirmed through covenant, witnesses, and righteous action.

Gates controlled who came in and went out.

Where authority sits determines what enters the community.

Amos 5:15, Deuteronomy 17:5, Genesis 22:17

𝐈𝐈. 𝐆𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐚𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐉𝐮𝐝𝐠𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭
Sign of status: to sit in the gate meant you were a leader, elder, or respected member of the society with honor and influence.

Proverbs 31:23, Genesis 19:1

Gate > Judges > Officers > Judgment

Judges will Listen >> Analyze/Test >> Decide

A man of wisdom and experience (Deuteronomy 1:15-17)

Justice begins at the heart. If the heart is corrupt, judgment becomes corrupted.

Heart > Judgment > Gate > Community

A gate without righteous judgment becomes a place where corruption enters.

𝐈𝐈𝐈. 𝐆𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐚𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐢𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐭
Guard your heart (Proverbs 4:22)

What enters the heart, influences the light within us.

𝙂𝙖𝙩𝙚 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙀𝙮𝙚𝙨: Guard what you watch, read, and focus on. They shape your inner thoughts and desires. (Psalms 101:3, Job 31:1, Proverbs 4:25)

𝙂𝙖𝙩𝙚 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙀𝙖𝙧𝙨: Guard what you listen to (advice, media, gossip, truth). They plant beliefs and influence us. (Proverbs 20:12, Luke 8:18)

𝙂𝙖𝙩𝙚 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙈𝙤𝙪𝙩𝙝: Guard what words you speak. They could bring encouragement or harm. (Proverbs 18:21, Jame 3:5-6, Colossians 3:8, Ephesians 4:29, Psalm 141:3)

𝙂𝙖𝙩𝙚 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙈𝙞𝙣𝙙: Guard your thoughts. They dictate your actions. (Ephesians 4:3, Roman's 12:2, Roman's 8:6-8)

𝙂𝙖𝙩𝙚 𝙤𝙛 𝙍𝙚𝙡𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨𝙝𝙞𝙥𝙨: Guard who has influence in your life. They affect the covenant we have with YHWH. (Proverbs 13:20, Psalm 1:1, 1 Corinthians 15:33)

𝙂𝙖𝙩𝙚 𝙤𝙛 𝘿𝙚𝙘𝙞𝙨𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨: Guard your standards. They determine your decisions. (Deuteronomy 11:26-28, Philippians 4:8, Proverbs 3:5-6)

Every gate needs righteous government. YESHUA IS THE GATE.

John 10:9 "I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. They will come in and go out, and find pasture."

Yeshua is the ultimate authority... in our nation, in our lives, in the time of ELUL.

We may have built walls to protect our lives, but if we fail to guard our gates, those walls are meaningless. What we allow to enter and leave our hearts—our thoughts, words, and actions—will shape our relationship with YHWH.

𝐄𝐋𝐔𝐋 — 𝐀 𝐒𝐄𝐀𝐒𝐎𝐍 𝐎𝐅 𝐏𝐑𝐄𝐏𝐀𝐑𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍 🕯️

Elul reminds us that preparation begins with the heart.

Like the ten virgins waiting for the Bridegroom, we are called to 𝙚𝙭𝙖𝙢𝙞𝙣𝙚 𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙝𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙩𝙨, 𝙧𝙚𝙥𝙚𝙣𝙩, 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙥𝙧𝙚𝙥𝙖𝙧𝙚. The wise virgins did not simply carry their lamps—they made sure they had enough oil.

As we approach the Fall Feasts, let us not be found spiritually unprepared.

𝙏𝙧𝙞𝙢 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙡𝙖𝙢𝙥 𝙬𝙞𝙘𝙠.
𝘾𝙝𝙚𝙘𝙠 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙤𝙞𝙡.
𝙀𝙭𝙖𝙢𝙞𝙣𝙚 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙝𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙩.
𝙍𝙚𝙥𝙚𝙣𝙩 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙧𝙚𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙣 𝙩𝙤 𝙔𝙖𝙝𝙬𝙚𝙝.

The Fall Feasts prophetically point us toward the coming of the King. We do not know the day or hour, but we are called to be ready.

𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝘽𝙧𝙞𝙙𝙚𝙜𝙧𝙤𝙤𝙢 𝙞𝙨 𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙞𝙣𝙜.
𝙆𝙚𝙚𝙥 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙡𝙖𝙢𝙥 𝙗𝙪𝙧𝙣𝙞𝙣𝙜.

𝐖𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐍𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐬: 𝐅𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐘𝐚𝐡𝐰𝐞𝐡 𝐢𝐧 𝐋𝐢𝐟𝐞’𝐬 𝐃𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐇𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬

𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐍𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭: 𝐆𝐨𝐝’𝐬 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐃𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬

“He took him outside and said, “Look up at the sky and count the stars—if indeed you can count them.” Then he said to him, “So shall your offspring be.” Abram believed the Lord, and he credited it to him as righteousness.”
‭‭Genesis‬ ‭15‬:‭5‬-‭6‬ ‭

When YHWH brought Abraham outside, He could have pointed him in any direction.
• He could have pointed to the mountains.
• He could have pointed to the trees.
Instead, He pointed to the heavens.
“Look up at the sky, and count the stars”

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐇𝐞𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐜 𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐬
Unlike the surrounding nations, Israel was forbidden to worship the heavenly bodies.
• The Egyptians worshiped the sun.
• The Babylonians sought guidance from the stars.
• The Canaanites associated the heavenly bodies with their gods.

“And when you look up to the sky and see the sun, the moon and the stars—all the heavenly array—do not be enticed into bowing down to them and worshiping things the Lord your God has apportioned to all the nations under heaven.”
‭‭Deuteronomy‬ ‭4‬:‭19‬ ‭

The stars were never meant to determine your destiny.
They were meant to declare God's glory.

“The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.”
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭19‬:‭1‬ ‭

“Lift up your eyes and look to the heavens: Who created all these? He who brings out the starry host one by one and calls forth each of them by name. Because of his great power and mighty strength, not one of them is missing.”
‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭40‬:‭26‬ ‭

𝟏. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐬 𝐆𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐔𝐬 𝐇𝐨𝐩𝐞
YHWH begins by changing Abraham's focus.
Abraham had been looking at:
• his old age,
• Sarah's barrenness,
• his empty tent.

But Abram said, “Sovereign Lord, what can you give me since I remain childless and the one who will inherit my estate is Eliezer of Damascus?” And Abram said, “You have given me no children; so a servant in my household will be my heir.”
‭‭Genesis‬ ‭15‬:‭2‬-‭3‬ ‭

Before God changes Abraham's future,
He changes Abraham's perspective.
• Hope begins when our eyes move from earth to heaven.
• Hope isn't denying reality.
• Hope is seeing reality through God's promise.

𝟐. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐬 𝐑𝐞𝐦𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐧 𝐖𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐇𝐢𝐝𝐝𝐞𝐧
• Stars disappear every morning. But they never leave.
• Clouds hide them. Daylight conceals them. But their position never changes.
• Neither do God's promises.

“The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever.”
‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭40‬:‭8‬ ‭

“Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.”
‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭10‬:‭23‬ ‭

The stars become witnesses that YHWH’s covenant has not failed.

Every night, the heavens silently proclaim: "God still keeps His Word."

Just because you cannot see the promise...
doesn't mean God has forgotten it.

𝟑. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐬 𝐃𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐔𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐌𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐚𝐡
Centuries later, another night...
Another sky... Another promise...
• This time, God doesn't simply tell people to look at the stars.
• He uses a star to lead them to Yeshua.

“The promises were spoken to Abraham and to his seed. Scripture does not say “and to seeds,” meaning many people, but “and to your seed,” meaning one person, who is Christ.”
‭‭Galatians‬ ‭3‬:‭16‬ ‭

Abraham looked up and believed.
The wise men did the same, and it led them to Yeshua.
The stars never became the destination.
It is a sign to continue until we meet Yeshua.

What do God's promises do?
• They give hope.

Why can I trust them?
• They remain constant, even when hidden.

Where do they lead?
• They lead me to Messiah.

Overcoming fear gives us the courage to take the first step. But looking at the stars keeps us walking.

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐧𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐠𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐮𝐬:
• Hope when the future looked impossible.
• Confidence when the promise seemed hidden.
• Direction toward God's greater redemption.
