“Do not lose courage in considering your own imperfections.”
— St. Francis de Sales

There are moments when the storms of life become overwhelming, not only because of what is happening around us, but because of the weakness we see within ourselves. We may feel unworthy, afraid, or incapable of facing what lies ahead. Yet St. Francis de Sales reminds us not to lose courage because of our imperfections.

Like the disciples in the boat, we can easily become afraid when the waves grow stronger. But Jesus was with them all along. Their weakness did not make Him leave, and their fear did not make Him abandon them.

God does not ask us to be perfect before we come to Him. He asks us to trust Him. Our weakness is not greater than His grace, and our storms are never greater than His power.

Whatever storm you are facing today, do not lose courage. Jesus is in your boat. He knows your weaknesses, sees your struggles, and remains with you even when your faith feels small.

Lord Jesus,
when the storms of life overwhelm us, help us not to lose courage because of our weaknesses and imperfections. Teach us to trust in Your mercy and to place our fears in Your loving hands.

When we feel afraid, remind us that You are with us. When we feel weak, give us Your strength. And when the waves of life become too strong, help us remember that You are greater than every storm we face.

May we never be discouraged by our imperfections, but always have the courage to turn toward You, trusting that Your grace is enough.

Amen.

St. Francis de Sales, pray for us!

CHURCH NEWS | Naga City, Bicol Region, Devotees Gear Up for Month-Long Peñafrancia Festival

The month-long Peñafrancia Festival in Naga City transforms the region every September with grand religious devotion and vibrant cultural festivities. The celebration begins with the traditional Pagbalyo honoring the Holy Face, leading into the massive Traslación procession where the miraculous images of "Ina" and the Divino Rostro are transferred by barefoot voyadores to the Naga Metropolitan Cathedral for a nine-day novena.

Alongside the deep religious observances, the city comes alive with civic parades, marching bands, food fairs, and local tourism activities. The entire festival reaches its spectacular climax during the grand Fluvial Procession, where the sacred images journey back to the Basilica Minore on an illuminated, flower-decked pagoda along the Naga River, cheered on by thousands of devotees waving white handkerchiefs.

"When we truly believe that God knows our needs and holds the world in His hands, our constant worry begins to melt away."

GOD CARES, EVEN WHEN YOU DON’T UNDERSTAND

“Lord, save us! We are perishing!”

Perhaps this was not only the cry of the disciples; it is also the cry of our hearts when life becomes too difficult.

“Lord, where are You?”
“Why are You allowing this to happen?”
“Don’t You care about me?”

There are moments when we pray and nothing seems to change. We ask God for an answer, but all we hear is silence. We ask Him to calm the storm, but the waves keep coming.

And in that silence, we can easily believe that God doesn't care.

But the Gospel reminds us of something beautiful:

Jesus was in the boat.

He was there even when the disciples were afraid.
He was there even when the waves were strong.
He was there even when they could not understand what He was doing.

Sometimes, God's silence is not His absence.

Just because you cannot see Him working does not mean He is not working.

God sees what you cannot see.
He knows what you do not know.
He understands what you cannot understand.

Maybe right now, you are asking God for a storm to end.

Maybe you are waiting for healing, an answer, a breakthrough, reconciliation, or a change in your circumstances.

Don't lose faith because the answer has not yet come.

The God who seems silent is still the God who cares.

And when the time comes, He can speak one word—and the storm will obey.

Until then, keep praying.

Keep trusting.

Keep holding on.

Because the greatest assurance is not that there will never be storms.

It is this:

Jesus is with you in the middle of them.

30-Day Stewardship Challenge

Day 27 – Stewardship of Hope

Becoming a Light of Hope in a World That Needs Christ

Scripture

“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”- Romans 15:13

Reflection

Hope is one of the greatest gifts we can share with a world that is often burdened by fear, uncertainty, suffering, and discouragement.

Christian hope is more than positive thinking. It is the confident trust that God is faithful, Christ has conquered sin and death, and our lives ultimately belong to Him.

There will be seasons when everything seems uncertain. We may face financial difficulties, family problems, illness, disappointment, grief, or unanswered prayers. During such moments, it can be difficult to see beyond our present circumstances.

Yet Christian hope reminds us that our present situation is never the whole story.

The Resurrection of Jesus is the foundation of our hope. The Cross appeared to be the end, but God transformed it into the beginning of new life. Likewise, God can bring grace, growth, and new possibilities even from the difficult experiences we do not understand.

As stewards, we are entrusted not only with material resources but also with the hope we have received through Christ. We are called to share that hope with others.

Sometimes we become instruments of hope simply by being present. A phone call to someone who is lonely, a prayer for someone who is suffering, a kind word to someone who has failed, or a reminder that God has not abandoned them can become a powerful gift.

We should also be careful with our words. Constant negativity, gossip, and hopelessness can discourage others. A faithful steward chooses words that are truthful but also charitable—words that build up rather than tear down.

Hope does not mean pretending that suffering is easy. It means facing suffering with the assurance that God is with us in it.

Mary is a beautiful model of Christian hope. At the foot of the Cross, she remained faithful even when she could not yet see what God was accomplishing. Her trust teaches us to remain with God even in moments when His plan is difficult to understand.

Today, let us become bearers of hope. In a world that needs encouragement, let our presence remind others that God is still faithful.

Challenge for the Day

Give someone a reason to hope today.

You may:

- Encourage someone who is discouraged.
- Call or message someone who may be feeling alone.
- Pray with someone facing a difficult situation.
- Share a Scripture verse about God's faithfulness.
- Offer forgiveness and give someone a chance to begin again.
- Avoid negative or discouraging conversations today.
- Remind someone gently: “God has not abandoned you.”

Ask the Holy Spirit to show you who needs hope today.

Questions for Reflection

1. Where do I place my hope when life becomes difficult?
2. Do my words and actions give hope to the people around me?
3. Who might God be asking me to encourage today?

Prayer for the Day

Heavenly Father,

You are the God of hope.

When I am afraid, teach me to trust You. When I am discouraged, remind me of Your faithfulness. When I cannot see the way forward, help me believe that You are still working.

Fill my heart with the hope of Christ so that I may become a source of encouragement to others.

Use my words, my presence, my prayers, and my actions to bring light to those who are struggling.

May I never forget that the Cross is not the end and that, in Christ, suffering and death do not have the final word.

Holy Spirit, make me a faithful steward of hope.

Through Christ our Lord.

Amen.

Daily Resolution

Today, I will intentionally encourage one person and remind them, through my words or actions, that God is faithful and they are never alone.

WHEN LIFE SEEMS DIFFICULT, STAY | “In times of difficulty, we need a faith that refuses to let go of God. This is perhaps one of the most precious lessons we can learn from this Sunday’s Gospel.

The Canaanite woman was a mother deeply in pain because her daughter was being tormented by a demon. It is often said that a child’s pain becomes twice the pain in a mother’s heart. And so this mother cried out desperately: “Lord, Son of David, have pity on me!”

But what happened?

Something very surprising: the Lord did not answer her. Jesus was silent. And perhaps that was more painful than hearing “No.” Sometimes, the silence of God can hurt even more than a refusal.

Many of us have experienced this. We pray, but nothing seems to happen. We ask God to heal someone we love, but the sickness continues. We pray for our children, but sometimes they seem to drift even farther away. We ask for peace in the family, but the conflict remains. We pray for change in our country, but sometimes the situation seems to become even worse.

And so we ask, “Lord, are You listening?”

The Canaanite woman teaches us a profound truth: The silence of God does not mean the absence of God.

The Lord did not answer her, but the woman did not leave. Instead, she came even closer. She knelt before Jesus and said: “Lord, help me.”

What a beautiful prayer! It was not long. There were no elaborate words. Just three simple words coming from a heart that refused to surrender: “Lord, help me.”

She refused to give up. Even when Jesus tested her severely, the woman remained humble and persistent.

Jesus said to her: “It is not right to take the food of the children and throw it to the dogs.”

These words may sound harsh to us. Jesus was using an image familiar to His listeners: Israel was understood as the children of God’s covenant, while the Gentiles were considered outsiders. But instead of becoming offended or walking away, the woman responded with remarkable humility and faith: “Please, Lord, for even the dogs eat the scraps that fall from the table of their masters.”

And Jesus praised her: “O woman, great is your faith! Let it be done for you as you wish.”

And from that very moment, her daughter was healed.

What made this woman’s faith so great? It was not because she understood everything God was doing. Her faith was great because she continued to trust even when she did not understand.

Perhaps this is also the kind of faith we need today.

Not a faith that says, “Lord, I will believe in You if You answer my prayer immediately.”

But a faith that says: “Lord, even when I do not understand, I will still trust You. Even when I cannot yet see the answer, I will continue praying. Even when You seem silent, I will remain close to You.”

My dear brothers and sisters, perhaps one of the greatest expressions of faith is simply this: Refusing to walk away from God.

When life becomes difficult, stay.
When your prayer feels dry, stay.
When you are frustrated, stay.
When God seems to give no answer, stay.

Because God’s silence is not the end of the story.

The Canaanite woman eventually went home with her prayer answered. But even before her daughter was healed, something beautiful had already happened: her suffering had revealed the greatness of her faith.

And so, when difficult days come, perhaps we can make her short and simple prayer our own: “Lord, help me.”

Great faith is not a faith that never struggles. Great faith is a faith that, despite the struggle, refuses to let go of God.
——

Let me end with a story.

There was a mother whose son had slowly drifted away from his family and from God. He stopped going to church. He became involved with the wrong friends. Whenever his mother tried to advise him, he would become angry.

One day, he finally told her, “Mama, please stop talking to me about God. I don’t want to hear it anymore.”

The mother was deeply hurt. But she simply answered:

“Okay, anak. I will stop talking to you about God. But I will never stop talking to God about you.”

Every night before going to sleep, she mentioned her son’s name in prayer.

Sometimes she prayed with hope.
Sometimes with tears.
Sometimes all she could say was, “Lord, help my son.”

Years passed.

There were days when she wondered whether God was listening at all. But like the Canaanite woman, she refused to walk away. She kept praying. She kept trusting. And most importantly, she kept loving her son.

Then one evening, after many years, her son came home. He sat quietly beside her and said:

“Ma, will you come with me to church tomorrow?”

The mother began to cry.

Her son asked, “Ma, why are you crying?”

She held his hand and answered:

“Because I have been talking to God about you for many years. And tonight, I know He was listening all along.”
——

My dear brothers and sisters, perhaps you also have someone you have been praying for—a child, a spouse, a parent, a friend. Perhaps you have been carrying a prayer for months or even years, and heaven seems silent.

Do not give up.

You may not yet see what God is doing in the heart of the person you love. You may not yet understand why the answer is taking so long. But continue to pray. Continue to hope. Continue to love.

Sometimes, when we can no longer bring the people we love closer to God, we can still bring them to God in our prayers.

And when you no longer know what to say, pray the prayer of that mother in the Gospel: “Lord, help me.”

Then hold on. Because the God who sometimes seems silent is still listening, still loving, and still at work.

Never give up on God. And never give up praying for the people you love.”
