Today, the Church joyfully celebrates the Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul, the glorious Apostles, steadfast witnesses of Christ, and the heavenly patrons of the City of Rome.
On this sacred day, we commemorate their heroic martyrdom and give thanks for their unwavering faith, courageous witness, and immeasurable contribution to the growth and foundation of the early Church. Though different in their missions and personalities, Saints Peter and Paul were united in their wholehearted love for Christ, faithfully proclaiming the Gospel even to the point of shedding their blood.
Saint Peter, the Prince of the Apostles and the rock upon whom Christ built His Church, shepherded the faithful with humility and steadfast devotion. Saint Paul, the Apostle to the Gentiles, tirelessly journeyed across nations, preaching the Good News and bringing countless souls to the faith through his zeal and profound teachings.
Their martyrdom in Rome stands as a lasting testament to their fidelity to Christ and continues to inspire the Church to persevere in faith, hope, and charity. May their prayers strengthen us to remain courageous disciples, steadfast in our Christian vocation, and ever faithful to the Gospel.
Let us pray for the well-being of Pope Leo XIV, the successor of the Apostle Peter.
Prayer for Pope Leo XIV
O God, who chose your servant Pope Leo XIV in succession to the Apostle Peter as sheperd of the whole flock, look favorably on the supplications of your people and grant that, as Vicar of Christ on earth, he may confirm his brethen and that the whole Church may be in communion with him in the bond of unity, love and peace, so that in you, the shepherd of souls, all may know the truth and attain life eternal. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever. Amen.
Saints Peter and Paul, pray for us!
