Genesis 4:8-16
God's Justice and Mercy

The story is about the first murder.
Cain killed his brother. There is no reason that has been mentioned.
When God dealt the Cain for murdering his brother, by was cursed from the ground, being a fugitive, a wanderer on the earth. Cain accused God of injustice by saying that his punishment is greater than he can bear. It is important to know that God is just. In fact, the just punishment of God is far greater than the abovementioned punishment. Behind the God given punishment is the mercy of God. First, the punishment for his sin is everlasting torment in hell. When we experience the consequence of our sin, let us remember that we deserve far greater than the consequence we experience. Second, the protection that was given to Cain is God's mercy. But the mark is also a reminder for us not to sin. We should not murder anyone, even if the person is so wicked. Any form of murder, such as gossip, slander, and cursing, is an abomination before God. Let us not take revenge in thought, in words, nor in action. Let us love one another, especially those who are in the household of faith.

Genesis 4:1-7
The Right Way to Worship

The story is all about worship. The two brothers, Cain and Abel offer to the Lord in their worship. God receives Abel's offering and rejects Cain's. There is a requirement in worshipping God. The requirement is faith. Before God receives the offering, He regards Abel. This means that Abel is righteous in God's sight. Remember that God will not receive any offer from the unrighteous. Unless a person is righteous, what he offers to the Lord is not pleasing. The only way to be righteous is through faith. Abel has faith, while Cain has not. This is the significant difference between these brothers.
Another important aspect is the way we offer. We must offer by faith. The Epistle to the Hebrews regards Abel in chapter 11 as one who has faith. His offering is accepted because he offered it by faith. If we offer, pray, worship, and serve not by faith, God will reject it. Let us always act in faith, especially in our worship.

Genesis 3:22-24
The Only Judge and Lord

God said that man had become like one of them, knowing good and evil. Satan's temptation is about becoming like God in eating the forbidden. What does it mean to become like God, who knows good and evil? In relation to what is good and evil, only God is the Lord and judge of all things. When man becomes God, he is now the judge and lord based on their knowledge of good and evil. In the book of Judges, the statement, "there is no king, and they do what is good in their own eyes," is a statement that they became judges and lords. We, Christians, are no longer judges and lords. Though we know good and evil, we depend on the knowledge of God pertaining to what is good and what is evil. Let us trust the judgment of our Lord between good and evil by knowing His word. Let us not lean on our own knowledge of good and evil because it will lead us to sin.
God does not want us to be forever in our state of being the judges and lords of all things, so they removed our first parents from the Garden of Eden because He has a plan to regain a sinless life in Christ Jesus. The flaming sword is the word of God that gives us wisdom to bring us back to the way of life where we are no longer gods.

Genesis 3:1-7
Focusing and Trusting on God's Word

The passage tells us about the fall of our first parents, Adam and Eve. First, we need to determine how Satan, who is in the form of a serpent, deceived the woman.
Beware of Satan's scheme. First, he contradicts God's word. God said to Adam that he will surely die if he ate the forbidden fruit, while Satan said to them that they will not die. This strategy of Satan is to misdirect people from the truth to something that is appealing to the people, which is Satan's next move.
After Satan told a lie to them, he enticed them by telling them good things about eating the fruit. Your eyes will be opened, and you will become like God, knowing good and evil. Both of them gave in because they wanted to become like God.
We do not just need to know the word of God, but we need to focus and trust in the word of God. Focusing on the word of God is very helpful for us not to focus on the world's seemingly good offer to us. Trusting the word of God overcomes temptations. Let us focus on the word of God through daily meditation on His word so that when temptation comes, we can trust His word and not be deceived.

Genesis 2:23-25
Institution of Marriage (Part 2)

1. Eve came out ofAdam.
Through a single rib of Adam, Eve was formed. This reminds every husband to love his wife as his own body. For the woman, it reminds her that his authority is her husband.

2. Man shall leave his parents to hold fast to his wife
A new family is formed when a marriage takes place. A man must not be independent of his parents. Though parents may offer help, or a husband can ask for help from his parents, nevertheless, there is a sense of being independent.

3. They shall become one flesh.
The one-flesh union forbids adultery. Since the one-flesh union includes a sexual aspect, any sexual relationship outside of marriage is adultery, whether it is premarital or extramarital.

Therefore, the marital relationship matters to God. It matters because it demonstrates a sense of order, independence, and holiness. May the Lord find us faithful in our marriage.

Institution of Marriage (Part 1)

1. God created Eve because it was not good for Adam to be alone.
This statement is more than the sexual aspect. It is in the context of God-given task to Adam. It is not good for Adam to be alone doing the covenant duty. In carrying out the will of God.

2. I will make him a helper fit for him.
It is God who knows a better wife for a man and vice versa.
Therefore, singles must ask God, seek God for the partner fit for them in relation to their attitude, upbringing, skills, intellect, and others.

3. But there was not found a helper fit for him.
Marriage is designed for ministerial purposes. God joined a man and a woman in marriage to fulfill God's will. Singles must consider their ministry.

4. And the rib that the Lord God had taken from the man he made into woman
Marriage reminds the husband and wife about their union in creation that must be reflected in their marriage.

5. and brought her to the man
The wife must know that she was given by God to her husband. And also husband must know she is from God. Marriage is God's intention. For this reason, God must be acknowledged in marriage.
