Born in modern-day Haiti and brought to New York City as a slave, Pierre Toussaint died a free man, a renowned hairdresser, and one of New York City’s most well-known Catholics.

Plantation owner Pierre Bérard made Toussaint a house slave and allowed his grandmother to teach her grandson how to read and write. In his early 20s, Pierre, his younger sister, his aunt, and two other house slaves accompanied their master’s son to New York City because of political unrest at home. Apprenticed to a local hairdresser, Pierre learned the trade quickly and eventually worked very successfully in the homes of rich women in New York City.

When his master died, Pierre Toussaint was determined to support himself, his master’s widow, and the other house slaves. He was freed shortly before the widow’s death in 1807.

Four years later, he married Marie Rose Juliette, whose freedom he had purchased. They later adopted Euphémie, his orphaned niece. Both preceded Pierre in death. He attended daily Mass at St. Peter’s Church on Barclay Street, the same parish that Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton had attended.

Pierre Toussaint donated to various charities, generously assisting blacks and whites in need. He and his wife opened their home to orphans and educated them. The couple also nursed abandoned people who were suffering from yellow fever. Urged to retire and enjoy the wealth he had accumulated, Pierre responded, “I have enough for myself, but if I stop working I have not enough for others.”

Pierre originally was buried outside St. Patrick’s Old Cathedral, where he was once refused entrance because of his race. His sanctity and the popular devotion to him caused his body to be moved to the present location of St. Patrick’s Cathedral on Fifth Avenue.

Pierre Toussaint was declared Venerable in 1996.

REFLECTION:
Pierre was internally free long before he was legally free. Refusing to become bitter, he daily chose to cooperate with God’s grace, eventually becoming a compelling sign of God’s wildly generous love.

KAPISTAHAN NG PANGINOONG HESUKRISTO, WALANG HANGGANG AT DAKILANG PARI

Ang Kapistahan ng Panginoong Hesukristo, Walang Hanggang at Dakilang Parii ay isang mahalagang pagdiriwang sa Simbahang Katolika. Ito ay ipinagdiriwang tuwing Huwebes pagkatapos ng Pentekostes at inilalaan upang parangalan ang papel ni Hesus bilang ating Dakilang Pari. Ang araw na ito ay paalala ng sentrong papel ni Kristo sa teolohiya at pagsamba ng mga Katoliko, at pagkakataon upang lalong mapalalim ang ating pag-unawa at pagpapahalaga sa Kanyang patuloy na presensya sa ating buhay.

Ang pagdiriwang na ito ay nakatuon sa Munus sacerdotale (Pagka-pari ni Hesus). Sa pamamagitan ng Eukaristiya, naniniwala tayong tayo ay nakikiisa kay Kristo at sa isa’t isa bilang iisang mistikal na katawan.

Sa pagdiriwang ng Banal na Misa sa araw na ito, maaaring magsuot ang pari ng natatanging kulay ng kasuotan at bumasa ng mga pagbasa na nagbibigay-diin sa pagkapari ni Kristo. Ang pokus ay nasa sakripisyo ni Kristo sa krus at sa ating pakikiisa sa Kanya sa pamamagitan ng Banal na Komunyon. Maaari ring mag-alay ang pari ng mga natatanging panalangin para sa mga pari, na tinatawag na sumunod sa yapak ni Kristo at maging Kanyang kinatawan dito sa lupa.

Bukod sa Banal na Misa, maaari ring makilahok ang mga mananampalataya sa iba pang debosyon at panalangin sa araw na ito. Noong mga araw na iyon: Pagsapit nila sa dakong itinuro ng Diyos, gumawa ng dambana si Abraham. Inayos niya sa ibabaw nito ang panggatong at inihiga si Isaac, matapos gapusin. Nang sasaksakin na niya ang bata, tinawag siya ng anghel ng Panginoon at mula sa langit ay sinabi: “Abraham! Abraham! Huwag mong patayin ang bata. Huwag mo siyang saktan! Nagbalik siya at dinatnan niyang natutulog ang tatlong alagad. Sinabi niya kay Pedro, “Talaga bang hindi kayo makapagpuyat na kasama ko kahit isang oras man lamang? Magpuyat kayo at manalangin upang huwag kayong madaig ng tukso. Ang espiritu’y nakahanda ngunit mahina ang laman.”

Muli siyang lumayo at nanalangin: “Ama ko, kung hindi maiaalis ang kalis na ito nang hindi ko iinumin, mangyari ang iyong kalooban.”

In the year 596, some 40 monks set out from Rome to evangelize the Anglo-Saxons in England. Leading the group was Augustine, the prior of their monastery. Hardly had he and his men reached Gaul when they heard stories of the ferocity of the Anglo-Saxons and of the treacherous waters of the English Channel. Augustine returned to Rome and to Gregory the Great—the pope who had sent them—only to be assured by him that their fears were groundless.

Augustine of Canterbury set out again. This time the group crossed the English Channel and landed in the territory of Kent, ruled by King Ethelbert, a pagan married to a Christian, Bertha. Ethelbert received them kindly, set up a residence for them in Canterbury and within the year, on Pentecost Sunday 597, was himself baptized. After being consecrated a bishop in France, Augustine returned to Canterbury, where he founded his see. He constructed a church and monastery near where the present cathedral, begun in 1070, now stands. As the faith spread, additional sees were established at London and Rochester.

Work was sometimes slow and Augustine of Canterbury did not always meet with success. Attempts to reconcile the Anglo-Saxon Christians with the original Briton Christians—who had been driven into western England by Anglo-Saxon invaders—ended in dismal failure. Augustine failed to convince the Britons to give up certain Celtic customs at variance with Rome and to forget their bitterness, helping him evangelize their Anglo-Saxon conquerors.

Laboring patiently, Augustine of Canterbury wisely heeded the missionary principles—quite enlightened for the times—suggested by Pope Gregory: purify rather than destroy pagan temples and customs; let pagan rites and festivals be transformed into Christian feasts; retain local customs as far as possible. The limited success Augustine achieved in England before his death in 605, a short eight years after his arrival, would eventually bear fruit long after in the conversion of England. Augustine of Canterbury can truly be called the “Apostle of England.”

REFLECTION:
Augustine of Canterbury comes across today as a very human saint, one who could suffer like many of us from a failure of nerve. For example, his first venture to England ended in a big U-turn back to Rome. He made mistakes and met failure in his peacemaking attempts with the Briton Christians. He often wrote to Rome for decisions on matters he could have decided on his own had he been more self-assured. He even received mild warnings against pride from Pope Gregory, who cautioned him to “fear lest, amidst the wonders that are done, the weak mind be puffed up by self-esteem.”

Augustine’s perseverance amidst obstacles and only partial success teaches today’s apostles and pioneers to struggle on despite frustrations and be satisfied with gradual advances.

Philip Neri was a sign of contradiction, combining popularity with piety against the background of a corrupt Rome and a disinterested clergy: the whole post-Renaissance malaise.

At an early age, Philip abandoned the chance to become a businessman, moved to Rome from Florence, and devoted his life and individuality to God. After three years of philosophy and theology studies, he gave up any thought of ordination. The next 13 years were spent in a vocation unusual at the time—that of a layperson actively engaged in prayer and the apostolate.

As the Council of Trent (1545-63) was reforming the Church on a doctrinal level, Philip Neri’s appealing personality was winning him friends from all levels of society, from beggars to cardinals. He rapidly gathered around himself a group of laypersons won over by his audacious spirituality. Initially, they met as an informal prayer and discussion group, and also served poor people in Rome.

At the urging of his confessor, Philip Neri was ordained a priest and soon became an outstanding confessor himself, gifted with the knack of piercing the pretenses and illusions of others, though always in a charitable manner and often with a joke. He arranged talks, discussions, and prayers for his penitents in a room above the church. He sometimes led “excursions” to other churches, often with music and a picnic on the way.

Some of Philip’s followers became priests and lived together in community. This was the beginning of the Oratory, the religious institute he founded. A feature of their life was a daily afternoon service of four informal talks, with vernacular hymns and prayers. Giovanni Palestrina was one of Philip’s followers, and composed music for the services. The Oratory was finally approved after suffering through a period of accusations of being an assembly of heretics, where laypersons preached and sang vernacular hymns!

Philip’s advice was sought by many of the prominent figures of his day. He is one of the influential figures of the Counter-Reformation, mainly for converting to personal holiness many of the influential people within the Church itself. His characteristic virtues were humility and gaiety.

After spending a day hearing confessions and receiving visitors, Philip Neri suffered a hemorrhage and died on the feast of Corpus Christi in 1595. He was beatified in 1615 and canonized in 1622.

Three centuries later, Cardinal John Henry Newman founded the first English-speaking house of the Oratory in London.

REFLECTION:
Many people wrongly feel that such an attractive and jocular personality as Philip’s cannot be combined with an intense spirituality. Philip’s life melts our rigid, narrow views of piety. His approach to sanctity was truly catholic, all-embracing, and accompanied by a good laugh. Philip always wanted his followers to become not less but more human through their striving for holiness.

Mga pinakamamahal, tungkol sa kaligtasang ito, masusing nagsiyasat at nagsuri ang mga propetang humula sa kaloob na itong nakalaan sa inyo. Sinuri nila kung kailan at paano ito mangyayari. Ang panahong ito ang tinutukoy ng Espiritu ni Kristo na sumasakanila nang paunang ipahayag sa kanila ang hirap na titiisin ni Kristo at ang parangal na tatamuhin niya. Nang kanilang ipahayag ang mga katotohanang ito, ipinaunawa sa kanila ng Diyos na ang ginagawa nila’y sa kapakinabangan ninyo – at hindi sa kanila. Bede the Venerable is one of the few saints honored as such even during his lifetime. His writings were filled with such faith and learning that even while he was still alive, a Church council ordered them to be read publicly in the churches.

At an early age, Bede was entrusted to the care of the abbot of the Monastery of St. Paul, Jarrow. The happy combination of genius and the instruction of scholarly, saintly monks, produced a saint and an extraordinary scholar, perhaps the most outstanding one of his day. He was deeply versed in all the sciences of his times: natural philosophy, the philosophical principles of Aristotle, astronomy, arithmetic, grammar, ecclesiastical history, the lives of the saints and especially, holy Scripture.

From the time of his ordination to the priesthood at 30—he had been ordained a deacon at 19—till his death, Bede the Venerable was ever occupied with learning, writing, and teaching. Besides the many books that he copied, he composed 45 of his own, including 30 commentaries on books of the Bible.

His Ecclesiastical History of the English People is commonly regarded as of decisive importance in the art and science of writing history. A unique era was coming to an end at the time of Bede’s death: It had fulfilled its purpose of preparing Western Christianity to assimilate the non-Roman barbarian North. Bede recognized the opening to a new day in the life of the Church even as it was happening.

Although eagerly sought by kings and other notables, even Pope Sergius, Bede the Venerable managed to remain in his own monastery until his death. Only once did he leave for a few months in order to teach in the school of the archbishop of York. Bede died in 735 praying his favorite prayer: “Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As in the beginning, so now, and forever.”

REFLECTION:
Though his History is the greatest legacy Bede the Venerable has left us, his work in all the sciences, especially in Scripture, should not be overlooked. During his last Lent, Bede worked on a translation of the Gospel of Saint John into English, completing it the day he died. But of this work “to break the word to the poor and unlearned” nothing remains today.

PAGGUNITA SA MAHAL NA BIRHENG MARIA, INA NG SIMBAHAN

Ang Paggunita sa Mahal na Birheng Maria, Ina ng Simbahan, ay nagpapaalala sa atin kung paano mismo ninanais ni Hesus, sa pamamagitan ng Kanyang pagtitiwala, na ang banal na pagka-ina ni Maria ay maipagkaloob sa lahat ng tao—ibig sabihin, sa mismong Simbahan. Noong 2018, itinakda ni Pope Francis ang Lunes pagkatapos ng Dakilang Kapistahan ng Pentekostes, ang araw kung kailan isinilang ang Simbahan, bilang araw ng paggunita na ito.

Hindi bago ang titulong ito. Noong 1980, hinimok ni Pope John Paul II ang mga mananampalataya na parangalan si Maria bilang Ina ng Simbahan. Bago pa rito, noong Nobyembre 21, 1964, idineklara ni Pope Paul VI sa pagtatapos ng ikatlong sesyon ng Second Vatican Council si Maria bilang “Ina ng Simbahan.” At noong 1975, iminungkahi ng Banal na Sede ang isang Misa para sa karangalan ng Ina ng Simbahan, kahit hindi pa ito opisyal na paggunita sa kalendaryong liturhikal.

Bukod sa mga kamakailang petsang ito, hindi natin dapat kalimutan kung gaano na katagal umiiral ang titulong Maria, Ina ng Simbahan, sa kaisipan nina Saint Augustine at Pope Leo I, gayundin nina Papa Pope Benedict XV at Pope Leo XIII, hanggang kay Papa Francisco na noong Pebrero 11, 2018—ika-160 anibersaryo ng unang pagpapakita ng Birhen sa Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes—ginawa itong obligadong paggunita.

“Nakatayo sa tabi ng krus ni Hesus ang kanyang ina at ang kapatid ng kanyang ina, si Maria na asawa ni Cleopas, at si Maria Magdalena. Nang makita ni Hesus ang kanyang ina at ang alagad na kanyang minamahal na nakatayo roon, sinabi niya sa kanyang ina, ‘Babae, narito ang iyong anak.’ At sinabi naman niya sa alagad, ‘Narito ang iyong ina.’ At mula noon ay isinama siya ng alagad sa kanyang tahanan.” (Juan 19:25–27)

SI MARIA AY “NAKATAYO” SA ILALIM NG KRUS
Si Maria ay “nakatayo” sa ilalim ng krus. Ang “nakatayo” ay tanda ng presensya, katatagan, at pananatili. Hindi tulad ng ibang alagad, hindi iniwan ni Maria ang kanyang Anak sa landas ng Krus. Dito ipinagkatiwala ni Hesus ang “alagad na kanyang minamahal” sa kanyang Ina, at gayundin si Maria sa alagad. Hinarap ni Maria ang sandaling ito nang may dakilang dignidad. Hindi siya tumakas sa harap ng hirap ng buhay kundi nanatiling “nakatayo.”

ISA PANG “MANGYARI NAWA SA AKIN”
Inanyayahan si Maria ng kanyang Anak na muling magsabi ng “mangyari nawa sa akin.” Ito ay isang bagong “oo” — mas malalim, mas matatag, at mas ganap. Ang kanyang pagtayo sa ilalim ng krus ang nagpalago sa kanyang pananampalataya at pagiging ina, na nagbigay sa kanya ng kakayahang magmahal nang higit pa.

Mula pa sa simula, puno na ng mga tanong ang puso ni Maria: “Pinag-isipan niya kung ano ang kahulugan ng pagbating iyon” (Lucas 1:29). Maging sa sinabi ni Simeon ay may dalang misteryo: “Ang batang ito ay itinakdang maging dahilan ng pagbagsak at pagbangon ng marami sa Israel… at ang iyong puso’y masasaksak ng espada” (Lucas 2:34–35). Namangha rin sina Maria at Jose sa mga sinasabi tungkol kay Hesus (Lucas 2:33).

Hindi minsan lamang nagsabi si Maria ng “mangyari nawa sa akin.” Ang kanyang pagsang-ayon ay lumago at naging ganap sa bawat pangyayari sa kanyang buhay, lalo na sa Krus ng kanyang Anak. Sa kanyang katapatan, tinanggap niya ang bagong misyon bilang “Ina ng Simbahan.” Siya ay naging ina dahil sa pamamagitan niya tayo ay muling isinisilang sa biyaya, kung matututo tayong lumago “hanggang sa ganap na pagkakawangis ni Kristo” (Efeso 4:7–13).

ANG BUHAY KRISTIYANO AT ANG MISTERYO NG KRUS
Ang paggunita na ito ay tumutulong upang maalala natin na ang paglago sa buhay Kristiyano ay dapat nakaugat sa Misteryo ng Krus, sa paghahandog ni Kristo sa Banal na Eukaristiya, at sa Ina ng Manunubos at Ina ng mga Tinubos.

Kung paanong marunong “tumayo” si Maria sa paanan ng Krus nang hindi tumatakas sa sakit at hirap ng pag-unawa, gayundin bilang Ina ay marunong siyang manatili sa tabi ng bawat isa na ipinagkatiwala sa kanya ng kanyang Anak.

PANALANGIN KAY MARIA, INA NG SIMBAHAN
Ina, tulungan mo ang aming pananampalataya.
Buksan mo ang aming pandinig upang marinig ang Salita ng Diyos at makilala ang Kanyang tinig at tawag.
Gisingin mo sa amin ang pagnanais na sumunod sa Kanya at tanggapin ang Kanyang pangako.
Tulungan mo kaming mahawakan ng Kanyang pag-ibig upang makahawak kami sa Kanya sa pananampalataya.
Tulungan mo kaming lubos na magtiwala sa Kanya, lalo na sa panahon ng pagsubok at sa lilim ng krus, kung kailan hinuhubog ang aming pananampalataya.
Itanim mo sa aming pananampalataya ang galak ng Muling Nabuhay.
Ipaalala mo sa amin na ang mga sumasampalataya ay hindi kailanman nag-iisa.
Turuan mo kaming makita ang lahat ng bagay sa pamamagitan ng mga mata ni Hesus upang Siya ang maging ilaw sa aming landas. At nawa’y lalo pang magningning sa amin ang liwanag ng pananampalataya hanggang sa pagsapit ng araw na walang hanggan—si Kristo mismo, iyong Anak at aming Panginoon.

Pagkakain ni Adan sa bunga ng puno, tinawag siya ng Panginoon at tinanong,
“Saan ka naroon?”
“Natakot po ako nang marinig ko kayong nasa hardin; nagtago po ako sapagkat ako’y hubad,” tugon ng lalaki.
“Sinong may sabi sa iyong hubad ka?” tanong ng Diyos. “Bakit kumain ka ba ng bungang ipinagbabawal ko?”
“Kasi, pinakain po ako ng babaing ibinigay ninyo sa akin,” tugon ng lalaki.

Ang Mabuting Balita ng Panginoon ayon kay San Juan

Noong panahong iyon: Nakatayo sa tabi ng krus ni Hesus ang kanyang ina at ang kapatid na babae nitong si Maria, na asawa ni Cleopas. Naroon din si Maria Magdalena. Nang makita ni Hesus ang kanyang ina, at ang minamahal niyang alagad sa tabi nito, kanyang sinabi, “Ginang, narito ang iyong anak!” At sinabi sa alagad, “Narito ang iyong ina!” Mula noon, siya’y pinatira ng alagad na ito sa kanyang bahay.

Alam ni Hesus na naganap na ang lahat ng bagay; at bilang katuparan ng Kasulatan ay sinabi niya, “Nauuhaw ako!” May isang mangkok doon na puno ng maasim na alak. Itinubog nila rito ang isang espongha, ikinabit sa sanga ng isopo at idiniit sa kanyang bibig. Nang masipsip ni Hesus ang alak ay kanyang sinabi, “Naganap na!” Iniyukayok niya ang kanyang ulo at nalagot ang kanyang hininga.

Noo’y Araw ng Paghahanda, at ayaw ng mga Judio na manatili sa krus ang mga bangkay sa Araw ng Pamamahinga sapagkat dakila raw ang araw ng Pamamahingang ito. Kaya’t hiniling nila kay Pilato na ipabali nito ang mga binti ng mga ipinako sa krus, at alisin doon ang mga bangkay. Naparoon nga ang mga kawal at binali ang mga binti ng dalawang ipinakong kasabay ni Hesus. Ngunit pagdating nila kay Hesus at makitang patay na siya, hindi na nila binali ang kanyang binti. Subalit inulos ng sibat ng isa sa mga kawal ang tagiliran ni Hesus, at biglang dumaloy ang dugo at tubig.

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,

As we celebrate the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity, we also mark BEC Sunday with the theme: “BECs as Locus of Synodality: Hope to Our Wounded World.” The readings for Trinity Sunday, together with the lived experience of our Basic Ecclesial Communities, invite us to contemplate who God is, what our world is going through, and how our small communities can become concrete signs of hope.

God as Communion, Church as Communion. On Trinity Sunday we profess our faith in one God in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The Trinity is not a cold, abstract formula; it is the mystery of a God who is communion of love, a living relationship of giving and receiving, of listening and responding. Saint Paul expresses this beautifully: “The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with all of you” (2 Cor 13:13).

If God’s very being is communion, then the Church, the People of God, must reflect this communion. Today we are asked to express this in what we call synodality: walking together, listening to one another, discerning together, including those at the margins, and sharing responsibility for the mission.

Our Basic Ecclesial Communities (BECs) are one of the most concrete ways we can live this Trinitarian and synodal identity. In our barangays, in neighborhoods and chapels, people gather to listen to the Word and pray, to share their concerns, and to act together. Here, the communion of the Trinity is meant to become visible and tangible.

Indifference and our wounded world. This communion is offered to a deeply wounded world. In the Philippines, many still live in poverty; informal settlers, farmers, fisherfolk, and workers struggle; families are separated by migration; and the young fear for their future. Corruption robs the poor and destroys trust in institutions for the common good.

We also face grave ecological wounds: stronger typhoons and floods, rising seas, deforestation, polluted waters, destructive mining, and a throwaway culture that hits the poor hardest. Added to this are regional tensions and wars, especially in the Middle East, which take lives, uproot families, and worsen economic hardship felt in high prices and job insecurity, including for Filipino migrants.

Amid this, we are warned of a spiritual illness: indifference. Pope Francis speaks of a “globalization of indifference,” where we see suffering yet grow numb and say, “It’s not my problem.” Pope Leo XIV, in his Easter 2026 Urbi et Orbi, decried our indifference to mass deaths and the social and economic fallout of conflicts, describing a world “ravaged by wars and marked by a hatred and indifference” that make us feel powerless. When we grow used to injustice, corruption, war, and environmental destruction, indifference has already taken root.

Against this stands the Good News: “God so loved the world that he gave his only Son” (Jn 3:16). God does not turn away from our wounded and indifferent world but draws closer with compassion and communion: the Father sending the Son and the Holy Spirit renewing the face of the earth.

The first Christian communities: Synodality in action. On this BEC Sunday, we look to the first Christian communities as models of how Trinitarian love can shape common life.

“They devoted themselves to the teaching of the apostles and to the communal life, to the breaking of bread and to the prayers… All who believed were together and had all things in common… They would sell their property and possessions and divide them among all according to each one’s need” (Acts 2:42–47).

Here is synodality in action: they listened together to the Word, built real relationships, celebrated the Eucharist, prayed as one, and shared their goods so that no one was in need.

This is, in a sense, the original “Basic Ecclesial Community”: a small local Church where faith, fellowship, and mission mark daily life; where indifference is replaced by concrete solidarity; and where division is healed by shared prayer and discernment. What we read in Acts is not just a memory but a living pattern for our BECs today.

Today’s BECs as hope in our wounded world. Our BECs today are called to be this same locus of synodality and hope. In the face of calamities, violence, corruption, and poverty, BECs can be basic human communities where neighbors become brothers and sisters, listening to one another’s stories, responding first in times of disaster or personal crisis, and making the invisible feel seen and cared for.

They can be basic ecological communities, inspired by Laudato Si’, that organize simple but effective actions to protect our common home—tree-planting, clean-ups, disaster preparedness, and lifestyle changes that lessen waste and pollution, especially for the sake of the poor.

They can also be basic civic communities that help form responsible citizens, offering spaces for honest dialogue on social issues, voter education, and peaceful engagement for the common good, resisting corruption and lies without becoming partisan.

In all these ways, our BECs can make the love of the Trinity visible in our barangays and sitios, embodying a synodal Church that walks with the wounded and refuses to be indifferent.

Conclusion: Dear brothers and sisters, in today’s world wounded by poverty, corruption, war, ecological destruction, and a growing culture of indifference, the mystery of the Trinity reveals a God who is communion and compassion. The first Christian communities in Acts show us that this divine life can take flesh in small, concrete communities. Our BECs are invited to be basic human, ecological, and civic communities that embody synodality and offer real hope to our wounded world.

Today, the Lord is asking each of our BECs: Will you allow the grace of the Trinity to make you a real locus of synodality and a sign of hope in this wounded and indifferent world? Amidst this woundedness around us, will our BECs dare to be signs that another way of living together is possible—a way shaped by communion, participation, and mission?

Let us, then, invoke the blessing of the Triune God:

May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ strengthen our BECs; may the love of God the Father heal our communities and our land; and may the fellowship of the Holy Spirit make us truly one, walking together as a Church of hope for our wounded world. Amen.
